1913– 2007

Putnam, CT – Donald Mayo, 93, of Putnam died Thursday, March 15, 2007 at Westview Health Care Center in Dayville.  He was the husband of the late Gertrude (Poirier) Mayo.  Born in Worcester MA, he was the son of the late Adelard and Marguerite (Senior) Mayo.

Donald was in textile worker most of his working years.  He started at a very young age with Cluette & Peabody Co. in N. Grosvenordale, CT; where he had achieved the position of Cloth Room Supervisor when the plant closed in the mid-50s, he and his wife Gertrude moved to New Bedford, MA, where he was Plant Superintendent at the Wamsutta Mfg. Co.  Mr. Mayo became Superintendent of the Hill Co., known for the Martha Washington bedspreads, when he and his wife moved to Lewiston, ME.  Donald and Gertrude went to Caracus, Venezuela in 1965 where he was employed as Plant Manager for the Jonathan Logan Mfg. Co., from which he retired at the early age of 59.  He and Gertrude vacationed on Marco Island, FL for many years.  Donald was an avid golfer and a member of Raceway Golf course for many years.

Donald is survived by his three children, Donald D. Mayo and his wife Elizabeth of Putnam, Roland Mayo and his wife Siglinde of Shalloute, NC, and Jacqueline Cournoyer and her husband Paul of Dudley MA; his sisters, Claire Parker-Cicellini of Dayville and Mary Alongi of Salisbury; his brothers, William Mayo of CA, Kenneth Mayo of FL, and Bernard Mayo of Putnam; his 11 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.  Mr. Mayo was pre-deceased by 4 brothers.

Friends and relatives are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, April 28, 2007 at 10:00 am, at St. Mary Church of the Visitation, 218 Providence St., Putnam.  Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery in N. Grosvenordale.  Calling hours are respectfully omitted.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Northeastern Connecticut, PO Box 632, Putnam, CT 06260 or Westview Health center, 150 Ware Rd, Dayville, CT 06241.  Funeral arrangements entrusted to the Gilman Funeral Home.
