North Grosvenordale, CT– Donald “Don” F. Antonson, 87, died early Sunday morning, June 12, 2022, at Harrington Memorial Hospital in Southbridge, MA. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Elaine A. (Brezniak) Antonson whom he married in Manchester CT on May 21, 1960; his daughter, Dawne Suzanne Woods of Spencer MA; his son, Scott A. and his wife Lisa (Tamborini) Antonson of North Grosvenordale; and his four grandchildren, Edward Rivard, III, Michael Rivard, Olivia Antonson, and Evan Antonson. He was predeceased by his siblings, Edith Lazarowski, Andrew Antonson, Dorothy Kelly, and Mildred Kuszewski.
He was born on the 4th of July in Webster MA, son of the late Andrew “Anders” F. and Irene M. (Guerin) Antonson.
Don was veteran of the United States Coast Guard, having served during the Korean Conflict. After being honorably discharged from his military duties, Don worked as an electrician at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft Company. Following that, he was an insurance agent for John Hancock Life Insurance Company for over 30 years, covering Thompson and Putnam. He served as the local Union president for many years retiring in 1994. During his retirement years, he drove charter bus for Peter Pan Bus Lines and later Ritchie Bus Lines, Inc. He also served on the Thompson Board of Finance for 10 years.
Don was a proud member of the Thompson Lions Club for more than 40 years, serving as Treasurer for 35 years. He was also a proud recipient of their Melvin Jones Fellowship Award. He enjoyed listening to Polka and Big Band music and was an avid reader of library books. His favorite author was Robert B. Parker, who wrote the Spenser for Hire novels.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Don’s family from 9:00AM to 10:00AM on Friday, June 17, 2022, in the Valade Funeral Home and Crematory, 23 Main St., N. Grosvenordale, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30AM in St. Joseph Church, 18 Main St., N. Grosvenordale, Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Dudley, MA. Don was a wonderful man whom most of us at the American Legion in Webster referred to as a Saint because he was so kind and patient on Friday fish nights!
He always had a quick smile and a great sense of humor.
He will be missed by many.

Elaine, Scott, and all of Don’s loved ones… I was saddened to hear of Don’s passing. I so enjoyed talking with him at the many events held by mutual friends. Christmas Eve being one of those very special times. May your hearts be filled with fond memories and may peace be with you all.

So sorry for your loss. We have known you for so many years, and worked side by side with school functions, etc.. Don was always friendly with everyone he knew and to those he met recently.
