Thompson, Ct – Constance M. Gomes, 84 of Porter Plain Road died Thursday March 20, 2008 in Putnam. She was the beloved wife of Albert J. Gomes Sr. for 35 years. Born in Bellows Falls, VT, she was the daughter of the late Simon and Lucy (Tuttle) Unwin.
Mrs. Gomes worked as an inspector for the Raytheon Corporation for 35 years before retiring in 1989. She was an active member of the Thompson Congregational Church, a member of the Putnam Senior Citizens Club and she enjoyed making crafts, painting and cooking. She was always ready to volunteer to help others.
Besides her husband, she is survived by her daughter Janet L. Russell of Holbrook, MA; a step daughter, Nancy Duteau of Dudley, MA; two step sons, Albert Gomes Jr. and John Gomes, both of Thompson; a brother, Donald Unwin of Rockland, MA; four sisters, Shirley Eddy of Brattleboro, VT, Anna Rogers of Townsend, VT, Etta Bombard of East Thompson and Eleanor Lyon of Camden, ME; a brother-in-law; four sister-in-laws; 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Connie’s family from 4:00 to 7:00pm Monday March 24, 2008 in the Valade Funeral Home, 23 Main St., N. Grosvenordale. Her Funeral Service will be held Tuesday March 25, 2008 at 10:00am in the Thompson Congregational Church, 347 Thompson Road, Thompson. Burial will be private.
