Carmella

1922 – 2007

Thompson – Carmella (Trama) Landry, 84, formerly of Putnam and Thompson, died peacefully after a long illness Monday, September 24, 2007 surrounded by her children.  She was the loving wife of the late Arsene J. Landry.  Born in Grosvenordale, she was the daughter of the late Salvatore and Vincenza (Gredetino) Trama.

Mrs. Landry, along with her husband, co-owned and operated AJ Landry’s Grocery Store in Putnam from 1949 – 1983.  She lived most of her life in Putnam.

Mrs. Landry was a Eucharistic Minister for St. Mary Church, the financial secretary for Daughters of Isabella League of Catholic Women, a member of the Putnam Emblem Club, and a member of both the VFW and American Legion Women’s Auxiliaries.  Mrs. Landry enjoyed the Patriots, UCONN men and women’s basketball team and was an avid Red Sox fan.

Carmella is survived by her son, Daniel Landry and his wife Lesa of Pomfret Center; her daughter, Jo-Ann Chenail and her husband Bob of Thompson, with whom she lived for many years; her brother, Peter Trama and his wife Dorothy of Putnam; 1 granddaughter, Mialesa Breen and her husband Steven; and 2 great-grandchildren.  Carmella was pre-deceased by her brother, Constantino “Tony” Trama.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Carmella’s family from 5:00 to 8:00 pm, Thursday, September 27, 2007 in the Gilman Funeral Home, 104 Church St., Putnam.  A gathering will begin at the funeral home Friday September 28, 2007 at 9:00 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am in St. Mary Church of the Visitation, 218 Providence St., Putnam.  Burial to follow in St. Mary Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Carmella’s memory to the Center for Healthy Aging, 15 Marshall St., Putnam, Ct 06260.
