N. Grosvenordale – Barbara L. (Sponcey) Rice, 87, of Fabyan Rd., died Saturday, April 10, 2021, at Hartford Hospital. Beloved wife of the late Eugene E. Witter, Sr., and Robert Rice. Born in Webster, MA, she was the daughter of the late Maurice Sponcey and Marie (Mercier) Wheeler.

Mrs. Rice worked for over thirty years as a maternity nurse first for the Webster Hospital and later retiring from Day Kimball Hospital.

Mrs. Rice enjoyed playing BINGO, getting together with her former school and work friends, and was an avid Boston Red Sox fan.

Barbara is survived by her four sons, Eugene E. Witter, Jr. and his wife Linda of Middletown, John E. Witter and his wife Jeannine of Plainfield, Donald Witter of Thompson, and James Witter and his wife Susan of Woodstock; her grandchildren, Melinda, Michael, Brian, Eugene, III, Henry, Jennifer, Melissa, and Amber; her great grandchildren, Anthony, Alissa, Abel, Romeo, Teia, Katrina, Vicky, Scotty, Sidney, Savahna, and Zachery; and her great great grandchildren, Shelby, Isabella, Tylor, and Macalela.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Barbara’s family from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Friday, April 16, 2021 in the Valade Funeral Home and Crematory, 23 Main St., N. Grosvenordale followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 p.m. in St. Joseph Church, 18 Main St., N. Grosvenordale, CT.  Burial will follow in North Woodstock Cemetery.
