Canterbury – Arlene was called home to be with the lord and reunited with her husband Bob of 43 years in Glory, on Sunday morning, just in time to attend a service with the almighty himself.
Arlene was very proud of her humble beginnings, being raised in tenement apartments, with two very hard-working parents. Through selling homemade baked goods, her father was able to pay for her to attend St. Mary’s Catholic High School. She was very proud of her education and attended night school to obtain her associate degree.
She married her childhood sweetheart, Robert “Bob” Malo, he passed on Good Friday in 2000, and had 5 children, Robert, Gary, Timothy, Susan, and Kristy. In addition to her family, Arlene was proud of her career. For more than 20 years, she worked as the Trident Submarine Program Senior Secretary, where she met dignitaries and high-ranking military officials from around the world. When she wasn’t working, Arlene enjoyed reading, crocheting, and watching her favorite, Tom Selleck, on TV.
With her husband, Bob, and her family she lived in Plainfield, Saybrooke, New Mexico and California. Her last few years were spent surrounded by her loving family, living with her son Gary and Joan Malo of Canterbury, and visiting with her grandchildren, Daniel Malo of Putnam, and Allyson (Malo) and her husband David Carter of Killingly, and two of her great grandchildren, Matthew and Nathan Carter. Burial will be at the convenience of the family, in lieu of flowers, please share a good book with a loved one, and ask them to do the same Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Gilman Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Church St., Putnam, CT 06260.
