Pomfret Center – Antonio Amaral, 84 of Pomfret Center, passed away peacefully at home on June 7, 2021, surrounded by his family. He was the loving husband of Mary (Barbosa) Amaral for 56 years. Born in Sao Miguel, Azores. He was the son of the late Antonio and Gloria (Sousa) Amaral.
Mr. Amaral was the proud owner and founder of Amaral Farm Inc., (est. 1977). Antonio was not only a dairy farmer but a heck of a cattleman. Though he was business driven, he was a social butterfly and would make friends anywhere he would go. He enjoyed dancing and watching karaoke at Point Breeze. Tony was well loved and respected by many.
Antonio is survived by two sons, Antonio Amaral (Dawn) of Weymouth, MA, David Amaral (Ashley) of Pomfret, CT; daughter, Lisa Sorel (Mike) of Brooklyn, CT; brother, John Engenheiro of Putnam, CT; sister, Dinora Brandao of Barrington, RI; three grandsons, John Amaral, Shane Sorel, Lucas Amaral; two granddaughters, Mackenzie Amaral and Morgan Van Flatern (Matt); Antonio is predeceased by sister, Maria Gloria Cabral.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Antonio’s family from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, June 11, 2021, at the Gilman Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Church Street, Putnam, CT. Saturday, June 12, 2021, a gathering will begin at 8:30am in the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in Most Holy Trinity Church, 568 Pomfret Road, Pomfret, CT.
