S. Boston – Antanas Mažiulis, 93, of S. Boston MA, died Sunday, July 1, 2007 at St. Joseph Nursing Care Center in Dorchester. Born on April 4, 1914 in Žukliškes Lithuania, he was the son of the late Antanas and Ona (Andriunas) Mažiulis.
iulis was with the library of Boston College. In Lithuania, he was a corresponding member of the Lithuanian folklore archives for which he collected over 15,000 items and over 20,000 words for the dictionary of the Lithuanian language. He was a member of several ethnographic expeditions, organized a collection of ethnographical materials, and established a museum in Dusetos. Many of his articles on Lithuanian folk songs, art, customs, early Lithuanian religion, etc. have appeared in Lithuanian periodicals and journals.
Mr. Mažuilis was a communicant at St. Peter Church in S. Boston and active in Lithuanian-Catholic organizations.
He is survived by his cousins, Angele Garsys and Aldona Klimavičius, and their families, as well as a number of more distant relatives in Lithuania.
Friends are invited to visit with Antanas’ family at 9:30 am Tuesday, July 10, 2007 at the Gilman Funeral Home, 104 Church St., Putnam, CT, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am in St. Mary Church, 218 Providence St., Putnam, CT. Burial will take place in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Putnam, CT. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Immaculate Conception Convent, 600 Liberty Rd., Putnam, CT 06260.
