Putnam – Amelia (Alves) Emond, 89, formerly of 97 Providence Pike, where she lived for 52 years, died Wednesday, January 2, 2008 in Matulaitis Nursing Home. She was the loving wife of the late Philip Emond. Born in Pontiac RI, she was the daughter of the late Manuel and Rosa (Gonalves) Alves.
Mrs. Emond worked as a presser for Laurion’s Dry Cleaners. She also worked for Roland’s Dry Cleaners and as a pie maker for Joe’s Wagon, as well as being active in many local organizations. Amelia was best known for helping other people.
Amelia is survived by her sons, Philip Emond and his wife Claire of S. Woodstock, and Robert Emond and his wife Ellen of VA; her daughter, Barbara Richmond and her husband Owen of Woodstock; her sister, Rose Walker of Webster MA; 3 grandchildren, Deborah Bayne, Kelly Kenneson, and Katie Achilles and her husband Michael; 4 great-grandchildren, Samantha Pedersen, Stephanie Emond, Brandon Emond and Deonte Foy; sisters-in-law; brothers-in-law; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Celia Tarnowski; a brother, Jack Alves and grandson, Steven Emond.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Amelia’s family from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 pm, Sunday, January 6, 2008 in the Gilman Funeral Home, 104 Church St., Putnam. A gathering will begin Monday at 9:00 am in the funeral home, with a Funeral Service held at 10:00 am. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, Providence Street, Putnam CT.
