1922 – 2007

Woodstock-  Alyce G. Boies, 85 of Ojala Road, died Sunday September 2, 2007 in Southbridge, MA.  She was the wife of the late Clayton Sumner Boies Jr. who died in 1974.  Born in Derby, Ct she was the daughter of the late John and Bertha (Asmus) Godkin.

She was a graduate of Seymour (Ct) High School and was a World War II Navy Veteran.  She married her husband in 1949 and they purchased their farm in Woodstock where they lived until their passings.  Alyce was a homemaker, always having a vegetable garden for her canning and jellies.  She would make butter and milk from the family dairy herd.  After her family had grown, she worked at Saga Foods and as a switchboard operator at Day Kimball Hospital until her retirement in 1984.  She then returned to devoting all her time to gardening.  She was an active member of the Woodstock Seniors Club, the American Legion Post 111, and she served on the 4-H Foundation for over 10 years..  She loved to exhibit her canning, sewing and crafts at the Woodstock Fair.  Alyce was an accomplished seamstress making clothes for family and friends.  She enjoyed watching the many birds that would frequent her feeders.

She is survived by her two daughters, Elizabeth Phaneuf and her husband Richard of Woodstock and Patricia Boies of Thompson; a son, Glenn Boies and his wife Susan of Woodstock; a brother, Louis Godkin of Bethel, Ct; six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.  She was the sister of the late Elizabeth McBride, James and Warren Godkin.

Friends and relatives are invited to visit with Alyce’s family on Wednesday September 5, 2007 from 9:00 to 11:00 am in the Gilman Funeral Home, 104 Church St., Putnam with Funeral Service at 11:00 am in the funeral home.  Burial will be private.  Donations may be made in her memory to the 4-H Foundation 326 Taft Pond Road, Pomfret Center, Ct 06259.
