1912 – 2007

N. Grosvenordale – Alvarez “Sarge” Lafleur, 94 formerly of Riverside Drive, died Sunday, January 7, 2007 at Matulaitis Nursing Home.  He was the devoted husband of the late Mary Rose (Pelletier) Lafleur.  A lifelong resident of N. Grosvenordale, he was the son of the late Arthur and Albina (Dumas) Lafleur.

Mr. Lafleur was a baker for Duffy’s Bakers and Caterers for 52 years. He was a communicant of St. Joseph Church.  He volunteered for the Community Fire Department and Ambulance Service for forty years, retiring in 1985.  He was a World War II Army veteran and member of The American Legion.  Alvarez was a Constable at the Thompson Speedway and at the Woodstock Fair.  He loved playing cards and fishing with family and friends.  He loved all children, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his loving children, Edward Lafleur of N. Grosvenordale and Suzanne Gatineau of Woodstock; a brother Paul Lafleur of Florida; 4 sisters, Etoila Morrissette of Plainfield, Cecile Ste. Germaine of Brooklyn, Lorraine Harakaly of Mansfield and Bernadette Lavallee of Waterloo, IA; 4 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren.

Friends and relatives are invited to visit with Alvarez’s family on Wednesday, January 10 from 5:00-8:00 pm in the Valade Funeral Home, 23 Main St., N. Grosvenordale, CT.  A gathering will begin at 9:00 am on Thursday, January 11 at the funeral home, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 am at St. Joseph Church, 20 Main St., N. Grosvenordale, CT.  Burial with Military Honors in St. Joseph Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Alvarez’s name to Matulaitis Nursing Home, 10 Thurber Rd., Putnam CT 06260.
