Putnam – Robert (Bob) R. Leclair, 80, passed away peacefully on Saturday February 11, 2017 in Putnam, CT. Bob was born in Putnam and was son of the late William Joseph Leclaire and Delina Rose (Peloquin) Leclaire. He was a longtime companion to the late Leonie Dauphinais for 40 years.
Bob was a gentle, hardworking man who always took time for others. He was a 1954 graduate of Putnam High School. He worked at US Button in Putnam for many years. He then worked as a warehouse worker for Frito Lay in Dayville, CT retiring in 1998. He was a member of the Society of American Foresters. He was a lifelong, avid fan of the UConn girls’ basketball team and the Boston Celtics, holding season tickets for many years. Bob was also a collector of sports memorabilia and keeper of sports statistics. Bob was proud to be captain of the Southbridge, MA Summer ¬Basketball League Champions. Bob enjoyed driving around town in his spotless Cadillac. Bob’s greatest love of all was being a grandfather figure and best friend to the late Sam Dauphinais.
Bob is survived by two sisters, Denise Rondeau and her husband Edward of Thompson, CT and Jeanne Dougherty of Woburn, MA; ten nieces and nephews, Jared Rondeau and his wife Mellissa of Killingly, Daniel Rondeau and his companion Michelle Reaume of Putnam, James Dougherty and his wife Susan of Winthrop, MA, Paul Dougherty of Medford, MA, Edward Dougherty of Londonderry, NH, Mary Haney of Fremont, NH, Kathleen Andre and her husband Charles of Medford, MA, Patrick Dougherty of Boston, MA, Maureen Thomas and her husband Nicholas of Woburn, MA, and Jeanne McDonald and her husband Sean of Burlington, MA. He was predeceased by his brother Paul Frank Leclaire and brother-in-law Robert Dougherty.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Bob’s family at 9:00 am on Saturday, April 22, 2017, at the Gilman Funeral Home located at 104 Church Street, Putnam, CT. A Funeral/Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am at St. Mary’s Church of the Visitation, located at 218 Providence Street, Putnam, CT. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
