Putnam – Lillian (Briere) Messier, 94, of Addison St., died Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at the Village Manor Nursing Home in Plainfield, CT. She was the loving wife of Theodore J. Messier, Sr. Born in West Warren, MA, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Laura (Masse) Briere.

Mrs. Messier worked as a dietary aide for Day Kimball Hospital for 34 years. She was a very active communicant of St. Mary Church of the Visitation and volunteered for many activities such as the “Circle of Fun.” She was a member of the Daughters of Isabella and served as a Regent for 24 years. She was also a member of the League of Catholic Women. She served as a Den Mother for Cub Scout Troop 21.

In addition to her husband of 74 years, Lillian is survived by her sons, Theodore J. Messier, Jr. of Putnam, and Robert R. Messier of Hebron, CT; her daughter, Carol A. Rodriguez of Ann Arbor, MI; her brother, Edward Briere of Putnam; seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Lillian’s family from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm, Sunday, March 4, 2012 in the Gilman Funeral Home, 104 Church St., Putnam. A gathering will begin at 9:00 am on Monday, March 5, 2012 in the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Mary Church of the Visitation, 218 Providence St., Putnam. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery.

    To Ted and his family you have lost a very dedicated mother and wife, Lil was also a very strong religous catholic devoated to her church. i can remember the many hours she gave to the circle of fun during my many years of involvement, she helped make the circle of fun the success that it was, for her many years of her hard work I am internaly thankful.
