Thompson, CT – Arthur R. Johnson, Sr., 59, of Thompson Road, passed away on Wednesday, April 18, 2012 in his home. Born in Thompson, CT, he was the son of the late Edgar and Florence (Jordan) Johnson.

Arthur worked as an industrial engineer for Johnson Corrugated Corporation for 35 years before retiring. He served his country proudly with the U.S. Navy Seabee’s during the Vietnam War. Arthur was the past president of the Lions Club, and belonged to many organizations including Knights of Columbus, American Legion, VFW, and Valley Springs Sportsmen’s Club. He was a lifelong member of the Thompson Hill Fire Department, and member of the Thompson Rod & Gun Club. Arthur was active in Troop 66 of the Boy Scouts, and an active member of the community. He enjoyed hunting, snowmobiling, racing, and running his sawmill and spending time on his farm.

He is survived by his two children, Arthur Johnson, Jr, of Thompson, and Jody Johnson, of Guangzhou, China; two brothers, Edward Luther of Thompson and Robert Johnson, of Sterling, CT; and his three grandchildren, Hanna, Emma, and Henry Johnson.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Arthur’s family on Wednesday, April 25, 2012 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm in the Valade Funeral Home, 23 Main Street, North Grosvenordale, CT. After calling hours the family is inviting friends to a reception at 6:30 pm, details will be shared at the calling hours. Burial will be private in West Thompson Cemetery, Thompson.     AJ & Jody: Can’t tell you how sorry I am about your father. There are some things I guess we take for granted; one for me was that Arthur would always be at his beloved farm. We weren’t in touch in later years, but every once in awhile I would come across a picture of you guys when you were little, and I would give him a thought, picturing him as I remember him…at the farm. Alot of history there that will unfortunately become just that…history. I will remember him fondly, as the man I was always proud to say was my brother in law and who helped me out more than once.     Susan,Aj,Jody, So sorry for the loss of your father and Susan the mother of his chidren. Even though I hadn’t seen him in a while ,you could never forget Arthur! Probably only close relatives will think of this… his big dimple when he smiled! Love,Aunt Joanne
