Pomfret Center, CT – Phyllis Anne (Cobb) Telesha, 81 of Seely-Brown Village died Friday November 25, 2011 in Day Kimball Hospital. She was the wife of the late Daniel P. Telesha. Born in New Rochelle, NY, she was the daughter of the late Harold W. and Kathleen (Créane) Cobb.

Mrs. Telesha was a 1948 graduate of the Academy of Our Lady of Mercy Lauralton Hall; she attended the college of New Rochelle and graduated from the American Institute of Banking. She went on to a successful career in banking working for several savings banks rising to Assistant Vice President. She was a member of the Association of Savings Bank Women. In 1981, she received the President’s Award for City Savings Bank. She served as president of Seely-Brown Village Residence Association and volunteered at the Day Kimball Hospital Gift Shop.

She was the mother of Danette L. Busby, Michael C. Telesha, Dreux A. Telesha and Tara Marie Telesha; mother-in -law to Edward F. Busby; grandmother of seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

1923 – 2011

Sister Ruth Babineau, DHS, 88, a member of the Daughters of the Holy Spirit died on Saturday, November 26, 2011 at the Holy Spirit Health Care Center where she has been in residence since 1999.

Sister Ruth was born on December 14, 1923 in Palmer, MA, the daughter of the late Arthur and Alexina (Plouffe) Babineau. She entered religious life in 1940 and made her religious profession on August 20, 1945 at the Holy Spirit Provincial House in Putnam, CT. She was then known as Sr. Jeanne Arthur.

Early in her religious life Sr. Ruth taught in elementary schools in Putnam, CT; Leominster, MA; Pittsfield, MA; and in Bridgeport, CT. She also served as dietician at Holy Spirit Provincial House in Putnam and at St. Clare Home, Newport, RI. In 1978, Sr. Ruth served as receptionist at the Provincial House until her retirement in 1982.

Survivors include three brothers: Rev. Alexis Babineau, A.A. of Worcester, MA; Raymond Babineau of Belchertown, MA; and Joseph Babineau of Boynton Beach, FL; one sister, Marguerite Lussier of Charlton, NY and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grand-nephews.

Calling hours at the Holy Spirit Provincial House chapel will be on Tuesday, November 29, 2011 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM with a Prayer Service at 7: 15 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, November 30, 2011 in the Provincial House Chapel at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Putnam, CT.

Pomfret Center – Pearl (Robillard) Kulzyck, 54, of Freedley Rd., died Wednesday, November 23, 2011 in UMass Medical Center in Worcester, MA after a brief illness. Born in Worcester, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Josephine (Distefano) Robillard.

Pearl was employed by Crabtree & Evelyn in Woodstock, CT for 24 years where she was known as a dedicated and valued employee. She was also a hard working woman in her personal life who enjoyed gardening with her son Stephen. Her interests included her family, taking care of her dogs, live music and having an occasional cold Coors Light.

Pearl is survived by her children, Stephen and Angie Kulzyck, both of Pomfret. She was the beloved sister of Mary DeLuca and her husband Edward of North Grosvenordale, Albert Robillard and his wife Sue of Dudley, MA, Christine Gould and her husband George of Putnam, Robin Brassard and her husband Paul of North Grosvenordale, Joy Daigle of Webster, MA, and Josephine Fontaine and her husband Bruce of Putnam.

Irene Ryan

Middletown – Irene (LaFlamme) Ryan, age 88, died peacefully on Tuesday, November 22, 2011 after a short illness. She was the loving wife of the late Anthony Ryan. Born in Putnam, CT, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Aldea (Vaillant) LaFlamme.

She was a loving lady with a kind heart and a contagious sense of humor. Irene will be missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her sons, James M. Ryan of Wethersfield, CT and Michael J. Ryan of Des Plaines, IL; her sister, Rhea LaChance of Dayville, CT; and five grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Irene was predeceased by her son, the late Donald R. Ryan, her sister, the late Angie Nelson, her brothers the late Roland LaFlamme, and Lee LaFlamme; and her granddaughter the late Courtney E. Ryan.

Putnam – Robert L. Streich, Sr., 74, of Thurber Rd, died November 18, 2011, in Masonic Care, Wallingford, CT. He was the husband of the late Delphine Alice (Nadeau) Streich. Born in Wauregan, he was the son of the late Bernard and Florence (Robidoux) Streich. He worked as a flea market vendor. He loved the New York Yankees, and going to the casino’s.

Robert is survived by his son, Bernard Streich of Homosassa, FL; and his daughter Donna M. Houle of Brooklyn; his brother, Arthur Streich of Plainfield, CT and Port Richie, FL; his sister, Loraine Dixon of Dayville; ten grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his sons, the late Robert L. Streich, Jr., and the late Bruce Streich.

Chester T. Chwalek

Norton, MA – Chester T. “Chet” Chwalek, 68 of 91 Codding Road, formerly of Pomfret Center, CT and Thompson, CT died Friday, November 11, 2011 at Newton-Wellesley Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. He was the loving husband of Louise (Beaudry) Chwalek for 43 years. Born in Putnam, CT, he was the son of the late John and Bertha (Modliszewski) Chwalek.

Mr. Chwalek was Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of the ATW Companies in Warwick, RI retiring in 2008. He was still actively serving on the Board of Directors. He served in the Army National Guard from 1968 to 1974.

Chet enjoyed being outdoors, photography and, most importantly, spending time with his family. He also enjoyed following the Red Sox, Patriots, and UConn Huskies.

In addition to his wife Louise, he is survived by his two children; David Chwalek of Sudbury, MA and Karen Burg and her husband Scott of Norwood, MA; his sister, Carolyn Molinaro of Bristol, CT and four grandchildren, Landon, Ava, Luke, and Travis. He was predeceased by his brother John in 1998. Chet also leaves brother and sister-in-laws and nieces and nephews who were very dear to him.

Frederick C. Morgan

Putnam – Frederick “Fred” Morgan, 85, of Maynard St., died Monday, November 7, 2011 in Matulaitis Nursing Home. He was the beloved husband of Doris (Lavigne) Morgan. They were married June 17, 1950 in St. Mary Church, Putnam. He was born in West Woodstock to the late George and Harriet (Morgan) Place. At the age of five, after the death of his mother, he was adopted by his aunt and uncle, the late William and Claire (Bonneville) Morgan.

Mr. Morgan was a veteran of WWII. He was a member of the Sea Bees, 122nd Battalion in the Philippines, and then went on to Borneo and China until his honorable discharge on March 7, 1946. He worked as an electrical foreman for IBEW local 35 in Hartford until his retirement in 1990. He always loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing especially. He was a member and past president of the Valley Springs Sportsman Club. He also enjoyed restoring antiques.

In addition to his wife, Fred is survived by his son, Roland Morgan of Portsmouth, RI, his daughter Ann McColgan, and her husband George of N. Woodstock; his brother, Harry Place of W. Woodstock; his sister Evelyn Apley of Marathon, FL; his grandchildren, George McColgan III, Daniel McColgan, and Elaine McColgan; and his son in-law, Kevin Fitzgerald. Fred was predeceased by his daughter, the late Jane Fitzgerald; his brothers, the late Albert “Bud” Morgan, and Charles Place; and his sister, the late Dorothy Guertin.

Brooklyn – Louis Jennings, 64, of Bailey Street, died Wednesday, November 2, 2011, in Day Kimball Hospital. Born in Welch, WV, he was the son of the late Frank and Opal (Bailey) Jennings.

Mr. Jennings worked at Anchor Glass until his retirement. He enjoyed spending time with his family.
