Putnam – Carminella Lena (Navarro) Deotte, 89 of Woodstock Ave, died peacefully Friday July 29, 2011 in Bayberry Commons in Pascoag, RI after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. She was the beloved wife of the late Louis H. Deotte. Born in North Grosvenordale, she was the daughter of the late Sabato “Sam” and Jennie (Leo) Navarro.
Mrs. Deotte worked as the head cook for Day Kimball Hospital for 15 years. She enjoyed cooking, taking walks, and spending time with her family.
Mrs. Deotte is survived by her two daughters, Christine Raymond and her fiancé Paul Cayer of Voluntown and Denise Cimochowski and her fiancé Wayne Edwards of Putnam; four brothers, Raymond Navarro of Pomfret, Angelo Navarro of Putnam, Danny Navarro of Pompeo, FL and John Navarro of Dayville; two sisters-in-laws, Ann Navarro of Pomfret and Patricia Rogers of Interness, FL; four grandchildren and their spouses, Marne and Eric Gustafson of North Carolina, Monique and Nils Gustafson of Nebraska, Kyle and Stacy Cimochowski of Putnam and Eric Cimochowski and his partner Austen; six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was the predeceased by six brothers; David, Rocco, Anthony, Joseph, Salvatore and Edward Navarro and a son-in-law Edward F. Raymond.

Putnam-Sr. Imelda Michaud, 80, a member of the Daughters of the Holy Spirit, died on Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at Holy Spirit Provincial House in Putnam, CT where she had been in residence since November of 2010.
She was born on December 15, 1930 in Hartford, CT and was the daughter of the late Fernand and Imelda (Nadeau) Michaud. She entered religious life in 1947 at the Holy Spirit Provincial House in Putnam and made her religious profession on August 23, 1950 in St. Brieuc, France. She was then known as Sr. Imelda de l’Eucharistie.
She taught from 1950-53 after which she was sent to study nursing at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford where she obtained her RN. Following this she obtained a BS degree. She then served as Nursing Supervisor at Holy Ghost Convalescent Hospital in Uncasville, CT as well as the Villa St. Joseph in Putnam. She also taught Biology at Putnam Catholic Academy, a boarding high school for girls in Putnam as well as at Annhurst College where she served as both teacher and nurse at both locations. In 1971 she was named Provincial Councilor and in 1978 she was elected General Councillor with residence at the Generalate in Rennes, France. In 1990 she returned to the United States and was named District Coordinator of DHS ministries in CA. In 1992 she became Director of Pastoral Ministry and Health Services at Mercy Hospital in Merced, CA and in 1997 she became Regional Spiritual Services Director at San Joaquin—Sierra Region. In 2002, she became Assistant Director of CA Associates and she moved Patterson, CA. As her health declined she retired to Holy Spirit Provincial House in 2010.
She is survived by a step brother, Paul Michaud of Sanford, Florida and several cousins.
Calling Hours at the Provincial House in Putnam will be on Friday, July 29, 2011 from 6:00-8:00 PM with a Prayer Service at 7:15 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday afternoon at 2 PM at the Provincial House Chapel in Putnam.

North Grosverndale – Florence M. Duquette, 88, of Mountain Hill Rd., died Friday, July 22, 2011. She was the loving wife of the late Arsene Duquette. Born in Grosvenordale, she was the daughter the late George Mailloux and Dora (Bilodeau) Mailloux
Mrs. Duquette worked for Mansfield State Training School for 22 years as a nursing aide. She enjoyed ceramics and playing Bingo.
Florence leaves her five sons, Roland Duquette and his wife Karen of Putnam, Arsene Duquette and his wife Dale, Roger Duquette and his wife Deborah, David Duquette, and Kenneth Duquette all of N. Grosvenordale; her daughter, Elaine Akana and her husband Michael of Thompson; a brother, Gerald “Pete” Mailloux of Windham; and many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Florence was pre-deceased by her son, Maurice Duquette, and daughters, Lorraine Labonte and Precille St. George.

North Grosvenordale – Dorothy (Downey) Jarvis, 72, of Holmes St., died Monday, July 18, 2011 in her home. Born in Worcester, MA, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Helen (King) Downey.
Mrs. Jarvis worked as a nurse for Hubbard Memorial Hospital, V.A. Hospital in Newington, CT, and Harrington Memorial Hospital in Southbridge, MA. She was a member of the Danielson Lions Club. Dottie loved caring for animals and was involved with P.A.W.S. (Pound Animals are Worth Saving).
Dottie is survived by her sons, Charles W. John and his wife Renee of Bronxville, NY, and Peter W. John, II and his wife Cynthia of Woodstock; her daughter Connie Crowell and her husband David of Greenville, RI; her brother William Downey of Worcester; a step brother John Belanger; and her grandchildren Amanda Crowell, Matthew John, Gavin John, and Nathan John. She was predeceased by her brother, the late Donald Belanger.

Brooklyn – Eleanor (Andrews) Morano, 93, of Canterbury Rd, formerly of North Grosvenordale, CT, died Thursday, July 14, 2011 in the Pierce Memorial Baptist Home. Born in Los Angeles, CA, she was the daughter of the late Archie and Eleanor (Underwood) Andrews.
Mrs. Morano was a volunteer during WWII. Prior to retirement, she worked as a research interviewer for Decision Research. She was a devout Catholic who at one time owned and operated Contemporary Christian Arts, a Catholic gallery, shop, library and discussion center. She volunteered in Catholic Worker soup kitchens, a foundling hospital, as nurse’s aide and in a center for child and family services. Mrs. Morano was extremely interested in issues concerning health and nutrition, constantly exploring and incorporating the latest research in the care of her family. Being the eldest of eight children, she helped to raise her brothers and sisters after her father’s death as well as rearing two families of her own.
Eleanor is survived by her sons, William Cosel of Tyringham, MA, and Christopher Morano of Essex, CT; her daughters, Suzanne Whitburn of NY,NY, Lu Morano of Kentfield, CA, and Francesca Morano of Thompson, CT; her brother, Benjamin Andrews of Greensboro, N.C.; and her sister, Charlotte Griggs of Essex, CT; eleven grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her son, Michael Joseph Morano and ex-husbands William Cosel and Michael Morano.

Putnam –Dorothy “Dottie” Chenette DeFilippo, 82, of Oak Hill Drive, died Wednesday, July 13, 2011, in her home. She married the late Anthony S. DeFilippo on August 8, 1953 in St. Mary Church of the Visitation in Putnam. Born in Putnam on October 10, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Carolyn (Montville) Chenette Maxham. She was also the stepdaughter of the late Eugene “Gene” Maxham.
Mrs. DeFilippo worked as a clerk for Jette Appliance Company as well as the Putnam Town Hall. She was a devout Catholic and a communicant of St. Mary Church. She volunteered for the American Red Cross and in her early years, she and her husband Tony were very involved with the C.Y.O.
Dot enjoyed reading and especially playing golf with her “golf buddies”. She also enjoyed driving with Sister Rita to visit the sick and give communion.
Dorothy is survived by her cousin, Richard Lamothe of Putnam; her adopted family, Lynn and her husband Greg Ravenelle of Pomfret, and their children Matthew and Marc Ravenelle, and her beloved god child, Meghan Ravenelle; several sister in-laws, Ann Bembenek, Doralta “Dora” Titchen, Philomena “Fannie” King, Evelyn DeFilippo; numerous nieces and nephews; her godson Lionel A. Richard Jr.; many cherished friends; and her loving cat Katelyn. She was predeceased by her brother Norman Chenette and his wife Ethel.

Putnam –Irene A. (Robitaille) Briere, 90, of Harrison St. died Saturday July 16, 2011 in Day Kimball Hospital. She was the Beloved wife of Edward J. Briere Sr. for almost 68 years. Born in Putnam, she was the daughter of the late Napoleon and Anna (Latour) Robitaille.
Mrs. Briere worked for the former Belding Corticelli in Putnam and later worked for Danco Manufacturing before retiring in 1987. She was a communicant of St. Mary Church and always had a devotion to St Jude. She enjoyed knitting, circle-a-word puzzles, and jigsaw puzzles. She also enjoyed birds and yellow roses. She loved spending time with her family.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter Marie B. Desautels and her husband Paul of Putnam, Edward J. Briere, Jr. and his wife Donna of Putnam, Jane A. Briere of Putnam, and William J. Briere of Dayville; four grandchildren, John M. Labossiere, Jr. and his fiancé Deb Rose of N. Grosvenordale, Lynne M. Labossiere of Putnam, Lauren E. Briere of Putnam and Todd Desautels of Savannah, GA; three great grandchildren, Marquis T. Mrs. Seraphin worked as an injection molder for American Optical for many years. She enjoyed bowling and traveling. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary Post # 10008 in Quinebaug. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family.
Beatrice is survived by her sons, Allan F. Korch and his wife Mary of Wilsonville, CT, Milton L. Danielson – Beatrice (Strain) Masso, 75, of Westcott Road, died Monday, June 20, 2011 in UMass Memorial Healthcare. She was the loving wife of the late Arnold Masso of New Jersey. Born in Norwalk, CT, she was the daughter of the late Ernest Strain.
Mrs. Masso was a homemaker who lived most of her life in Carteret, N.J. She was a member of Carteret Senior Citizens Center. She enjoyed cooking, bingo and had many dogs and cats.
Beatrice is survived by her brothers, David Strain of Danbury, CT, and Frederick Strain of Danielson, CT; Beatrice received special care from her appointed guardians, Mary Lou Verrette, her niece, and Crystal Madera, her great niece, both of Danielson. She was predeceased by her siblings, Mary Anne Clark, Laura Baldino, Elizabeth Strain, Robert Strain, John Strain, Richard Strain, Ernest Strain, and James Strain.
