Putnam – Yvonne (Montpelier) Remillard, 72, of Woodstock Ave, died Wednesday, April 27, 2011 in Day Kimball Hospital. She was the loving wife of the late Ronald F. Remillard. Born in Thompson, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Aurore (Desorcy) Montpelier, Sr.

Mrs. Remillard worked as a machinist for the Rexnord Company in Auburn, MA. She enjoyed knitting, going to Foxwoods, and spending time with her friends at the Thompson Speedway.

Yvonne is survived by her sons, Robert Demars of Thompson, and Francis Remillard of Putnam; her daughters, Marie House of FL, Linda Bernier of CT, Donna St. Laurent of NH, Michelle McDonald of MA, and Betty Remillard of Webster, MA; her brother Raymond Montpelier of CT; her sister Jeannette Corriveau of CT; 18 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by eight of her siblings.

Philip O. Lajoie

1929 – 2011 

North Grosvenordale Philip O. Lajoie, 82, of Main Street, died Wednesday, April 27, 2011 in Lanessa Extended Care.  He was the loving husband of Theresa (Larose) Lajoie.  Born in Thompson, he was the son of the late Exeas and Alice (Bellerose) Lajoie. 

Mr. Lajoie served his country in the Korean Conflict earning himself the bronze star.  He worked as a postal clerk for the North Grosvenordale Post Office and as a professional pallbearer for the Gilman and Valade Funeral Homes for 30 years.  He was a communicant of Saint Joseph Church in North Grosvenordale and served as a sacristan for over 60 years.  He was a member of the American Legion.  He especially enjoyed decorating for Christmas. 

In addition to his wife, Philip is survived by his son, Raymond Lajoie of Putnam; his brothers, Roland Lajoie of FL, Eugene Lajoie of FL, Paul Lajoie of Quinebaug, Norman Lajoie of Putnam; his sisters, Lorraine Breault of FL, Margaret Piekarczyk of Dudley, MA, Louise Robbins of Thompson, Claire Bosse of CA; and three grandchildren. 

He was predeceased by his brother, the late Gerald Lajoie; and his sisters, the late Theresa Beauregard, and the late Rachel Gibson.

Edd W. Eckard

April 29, 2011

1936 – 2011 

Pomfret Center Edd W. Eckard, 74 of Babbitt Hill Rd died surrounded by his family at the home of his daughter in Putnam.  Born in Wittenburg, NC he was the son of the late Alvin and Cora (Moretz) Eckard. 

Mr. Eckard worked for US Button in the perform department.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing. 

He is survived by his daughters, Jessica Eckard of Putnam and Rebecca Canova of Spotsylvania, VA; two sisters, Betty Pruett of Taylorsville, NC and Nancy Kerle of North Carolina; six grandchildren and two nephews.

Arline V. Richard

1928 – 2011 

Putnam– Arline (Osborn) Richard, 83, originally of Pomfret Street, died Sunday, April 24, 2011, in Matulaitis Nursing Home.  She was the lovingly devoted wife of the late Joseph Gerard Richard who died in 1972.  They were married in Saint Mary Church of the Visitation on July 8, 1950.  Born in Chicopee, MA, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Helen (Dybas) Osborn. 

Mrs. Richard worked as a bookkeeper for her husbands business, Richard Plumbing & Heating.  She enjoyed sewing gifts for her family; however, her greatest love was her devotion to her husband and family.  She was a communicant of Saint Mary Church. 

Arline is survived by her son, James Richard and his wife Linda of Putnam; her daughters, Mary Ann Pezanko and her husband Peter of Putnam, Denise Bates and her husband Michael of Putnam; her sister Mary Ann Davis of Pomfret;  her grandchildren, Dana Stucke, Kera Morissette, Jody Bates, Jason Bates, and Sara Mayo; and ten great grandchildren.  She was pre-deceased by her brother, the late John Osborn; and her sister, the late Alice McLaughlin.

Winthrop “Wimpy” Lyon

Pomfret Center – Winthrop E. Lyon, 77, of Youngs Rd., died Saturday April 23, 2011, in Westview Healthcare with his family by his side. He was the loving husband of Marsha (Meader) Lyon. Born in Willimantic, he was the son of the late Rolfe and Clara (Barton) Lyon.

Mr. Lyon worked for John M. Dean while serving as Assistant Fire Chief for the West Thompson Fire Department before leaving in 1970 to start his own construction company, Lyon Construction. He enjoyed music, traveling, his pets, and most especially spending time with his family.

In addition to his wife, Winthrop was survived by his daughters, Debra Castonguay and her husband Jack of Thompson; and Denise Briere and her husband Albert (Butch) of Putnam; his son, Dennis Lyon and his wife Denise of Plainfield; his step-son Donovan Fickett of Pomfret; his step-daughter Jillian Fickett of Oak Bluffs, MA; his sister, Patricia Marquis and her husband Henry of Putnam; eleven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; several nephews and nieces.

Raymond H. Dufresne

Danielson – Raymond H. Dufresne, 80, of Westcott Road, formerly of School Street, Putnam, died Sunday April 17, 2011 in Regency Heights.  Born in Putnam, he was the son of the late Henry and Aldea Leona (Rickey) Dufresne. 

Mr. Dufresne worked as a machinist for Pratt & Whitney.  He served in the Army National Guard of Connecticut and enjoyed deep-sea fishing and hunting.  He was an avid Boston Red Sox fan.

1937-2011
Putnam – Theresa Marie Gaudette, 73 of Providence St. died Sunday April 17, 2011 at Day Kimball Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Born in Caribou, Maine, she was the daughter of the late John and Eugenie (Boucher) Bouchard.
Theresa was a CNA at the Daughters of the Holy Spirit Provincial House for 21 years retiring in 2010. She took great pride in caring for each of the sisters. She enjoyed flying whether it was in a jet, plane or hot air balloon. She also liked camping, fishing, cooking and baking. She was a loving mother and a mémère to us all.
She is survived by her children; Debbie Hughes of Middletown, OH, Norman Gaudette, Jr. and his wife Denise of Thompson, CT; Richard Gaudette and his wife Debra of Plainfield, CT, Laurie Cote and her husband Dave of East Killingly, CT, Cynthia Nowakowski and her husband Ernie of Eastford, CT, Hollie LaPalme of New London, CT, Melissa Russell of Childress, TX, and Philip Gaudette and his wife Rebecca of Putnam, CT, her sisters Germaine Vallee of Southbridge, MA and Nancy Gagne and her husband Roger of Dexter, ME; 18 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Ernest N. Laurion

1929 – 2011 

Putnam – Ernest “Ernie” Laurion, 81, of Chase St., died Friday, April 15, 2011 in the Matulaitis Nursing Home.  He was the loving husband of the late Cynthia (McNally) Laurion.  Born in Putnam, he was the son of the late Ernest and Florence (Chagnon) Laurion. 

Mr. Laurion served in the Army during the Korean War.  He was employed for A&P Tea Company for 49 years and owned Ernie’s Package Store.  He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Cargill Council #64, the VFW Albert J. Breault Post, and a life member of the Elks where he obtained “Elk of the Year.”  He loved playing cards and Golf, but especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and family. 

Ernie is survived by his daughters, Cheryl Aldrich and her husband Arthur of North Dighton, MA, and Sharon Briere and her husband Michael of Putnam; his grandchildren, Joshua Aldrich, Ryan and his wife Meghan Aldrich, Melissa Payne, Zachary Briere, and Cynthia Briere; and his great grand daughter Natalie Payne.

Howard E. Newth, Sr.

Eastford – Howard “Stubby” Newth, 72, of Eastford Rd., died Tuesday, April 12, 2011 unexpectedly of cancer.  He was the loving husband of Gloria Newth.  Born in Putnam, he was the son of the late Earl Newth, Sr. and Sara (Thorton) Newth. 

Mr. Newth was a veteran of the Army during the Vietnam Conflict and worked as a heavy equipment operator at King Trucking for many years.  He enjoyed following Nascar and loved working out in his yard.  He especially loved his three dogs, Ricky, Rockie, and Dozer. 

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Howard E. Newth, Jr. and his wife Gina of Eastford; his daughter, Barbara Cote and her husband Joe of Westford, CT; his brothers, Frank Newth of CA, and Earl Newth, Jr. of VA; his sisters Earline Williams of Austrailia, and Betty Kowalski of Eastford; and his granddaughter Jessica Badger.  

He was predeceased by his sisters, the late Peggy Spink and Bobbi Newth.

Jeanne D’Arc Desautels
1912 – 2011

Grosvenordale – Jeanne D’Arc Desautels, 98, previously of Riverside Drive, died Tuesday April 12, 2011 in Westview Healthcare Center where she resided for six years. Born in Grosvenordale, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Angeline (Lariviere) Desautels.

Miss Desautels worked as a housekeeper for Day Kimball Hospital for eleven years. She had also worked for Grosvenordale Textile Mill in the spinning department. She was a communicant of Saint Joseph Church in North Grosvenordale and was a volunteer at their thrift shop. She just loved going to casino’s, especially Foxwoods. She was a member of the “Royal Travelers,” and traveled with her nephew, sister, and cousins to Atlantic City, N.J. and New York. Jeanne will be missed by many, but her smile will be missed most of all. She was just a great person.

Jeanne is survived by her sister in-law Marie Claire Desautels; several nephews; nieces; and cousins. She left many friends, especially two dear friends Charlotte Ravenelle, and Bernice Choquette whom she loved dearly.

She was predeceased by her brothers, Alferi, John, and Gerard Desautels; her sisters, Orianna Ferland, Anita Desautels, and Florida Grenier; and her nephew Bernard Ferland.
