West Thompson- Normand R. Langlois, 87, of Church Street., died Tuesday, March 29, at home after a short illness. He was born in North Grosvenor Dale, the son of Willie and Anaïs (Martin) Langlois, both immigrants from Quebec.
In addition to his wife of 61 years, Loretta (Vadnais) Langlois, he leaves three sons: Richard (Deborah Savage) of Columbia; Marc (Craig Mathis) of Ann Arbor, MI; and Michael (Elena Berry) of Winchester, MA. He also leaves a brother, Joseph, of North Grosvenor Dale. He was predeceased by two other brothers, Maurice and Roger, and two sisters, Annette Brousseau and Charlotte Gwizdala.
A veteran of World War II, Normand saw action with the 945th Field Artillery Battalion in Patton’s Third Army in France and Germany. He served as a line runner, whose dangerous job it was to string communications cable to artillery look-out posts. After the war he worked principally as a truck driver, at various times hauling oil, concrete products, and steel. He was active in the Boys Scouts in the 1960s and 1970s, from whom he received the Bronze Pelican Award for service. He was also a founding member of VFW Post 10088 in Quinebaug.
Normand continued to enjoy the open road after he retired, exploring the byways of the Northeast with his wife. Also an avid fly fisherman, he could be seen as recently as last summer wading in the Quinebaug River above the West Thompson Dam. But his passion was his family, and his favorite role in retirement was that of a doting pépère to his five grandchildren: Zachary, 21; Anaïs (Annie), 17; Noah, 15; and twins Christopher and Abigail, 11.

Thompson - Carmela Oden, 84, of Thompson Hill Rd., died Monday, March 28, 2011 at home. She was the loving wife of the late Howard Oden. Born in New Haven, CT, she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Mary (Giamo) Perrone.
Mrs. Oden was a pioneer in the pharmaceutical profession by becoming one of the first female pharmacists. She was a licensed pharmacist in five states and worked for close to 50 years in her profession. She began knitting in high school by making stockings for soldiers during WWII. Her lifelong pleasure of knitting resulted in her founding and operating a Putnam yarn shop called The Wool Works, Ltd. before retiring. She loved animals and enjoyed gardening, reading, and bird watching.
Carmela is survived by her children; Wayne Oden of Westford, MA, and Madeline Oden of Putnam; her brother, Carmelo Perrone of Waterford, CT, and four grandchildren, Carly, Brian, Emma, and Steven. She was the sister of the late Josephine Wilbur.

Clarence F. Deslauriers

Grosvenordale – Clarence F. Deslauriers, 73, Rachel Drive, died Wednesday, March 23, 2011 in New England Baptist Hospital in Boston. He was the loving husband of Theresa Deslauriers for 53 years. Born in Webster, MA, he was the son of the late Raymond and Florestine (Mainville) Deslauriers.
Mr. Deslauriers worked as a supervisor in the gloss department of American Standard in Plainfield for over 30 years. He later worked as a supply handler for Crabtree & Evelyn. With his wife Theresa and family, Clarence owned and operated Wings and Things pet store in Grosvenordale where they specialized in tropical fish and raising birds.
Mr. Deslauriers was a lifetime member of the Thompson Little League where he volunteered as a coach, team manager and the concession manager and served as the league vice president and on the board of directors for over a decade. He was instrumental in helping to develop the athletic fields on Red Bridge Road. He also volunteered for his son’s Boy Scout Troop. Clarence enjoyed making crafts, models, and puzzles and enjoyed attending hot air balloon festivals. In 2007, Clarence achieved a lifelong dream on his 50th wedding anniversary by his son’s taking him and his entire family to Disney World.
In addition to his loving wife, Clarence is survived by his three sons, Norman Deslauriers and his wife Lynn of North Grosvenordale; Bernard Deslauriers and his wife Elaine of Thompson, and Thomas Deslauriers Sr. and his wife Alicia of Putnam; four brothers, Lucien Deslauriers of Escondido, CA, Edgar Deslauriers of Putnam, Richard Deslauriers of St. Petersburg, FL, and Donald Deslauriers of Fabyan; a step brother Leonard Guertin of Massachusetts; seven grandchildren, Elizabeth, Holly, Kevin, Nicole, Tom Jr., Katlyn, and Sherry; a great grandson, Tyler; and his beloved dog Ginger.

Brooklyn – Robert A. Blankenship, 63, of Wauregan Rd., died Tuesday, March 22, 2011, in Rhode Island Hospital. He was the loving husband of Jean (Leroux) Blankenship for 30 years. Born in Norwich, he was the son of the late Sterling and Amelia (Tetreault) Blankenship.
Robert began his banking career with the former Norwich Savings Society where he worked for 18 years, serving most of that time as Auditor. He joined the Savings Institute in Willimantic in 1988 as Operations Manager and retired in 2006 as Facilities/Security Manager. He was a third degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council #49. He enjoyed woodworking in his spare time.
In addition to his wife, Robert is survived by his brother, Sterling Blankenship, Jr. of South Killingly; and his beloved dogs Grace and Dustin.

Putnam – Donald J. Langlois, 44, of Roosevelt St., died Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at home with his loving family by his side. He was the loving husband of Elizabeth “Ellie” (Riley) Langlois. Born in Putnam, he was the son of Ida (Peloquin) Langlois of Danielson and the late Adelard Langlois.
Mr. Langlois worked as a truck driver for M & M Transportation and previously for RB Green Transportation. He loved riding his Harley Davidson, and enjoyed camping and many other outdoor activities.
In addition to his wife Ellie, Donald is survived by his sons, Jeffrey Langlois, and Kyle Langlois both at home; his brothers, George Langlois of Webster, Bobby Langlois of Danielson, and David Langlois of Danielson; his sisters, Linda Strauss of Danielson, and Nancy Langlois of Brooklyn; and his dog Stubby.

Putnam – D. Alice Streich, 76, of Thurber Road, died Saturday, March 12, 2011, in Matulaitis Nursing Home. She was the loving wife of Robert L. Streich, Sr. Born in Putnam, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Alice (Castonguay) Nadeau.
Mrs. Streich worked as a sales person in the retail industry. She operated a flea market booth in Florida for many years. She also worked for Knox Glass, C & M Manufacturing, and American Standard. She enjoyed making crafts, reading, and cooking.
In addition to her husband, Alice is survived by her son, Bernard Streich of Homosassa, FL; her daughter, Donna M. Houle of Brooklyn, CT; her brothers, Ronald Nadeau of Oswego, NY, and Roger Nadeau of Niantic, CT; her sisters, Lauraine White of Westbrook, CT, Lillian Gibson of Dayville, Elaine Nadeau of Putnam, and Jeannette Shaw of Putnam; ten grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren.

Dayville, CT – Rita M. Bonesio, 84, of Ware Road, formerly of Avon, CT, and Hartford, CT, died Wednesday, March 9, 2011. She was the loving wife of the late Frank T. Bonesio Jr. who died in 2006. Born in Hartford, CT, she was the daughter of the late John and Agnes (Broder) McManus.
Mrs. Bonesio worked as a registered nurse for St. Francis Hospital in Hartford. She also worked as the director of nursing at Buckley Convalescent Home in Hartford.
She enjoyed tending to her flowers in her garden, bird watching, and caring for her many dogs. She took great pleasure in the summers she spent on Lake Bungee in Woodstock Valley.
Mrs. Bonesio is survived by two sons, Robert T. Bonesio of Woodstock Valley, and Richard J.Bonesio of Hartford; two daughters, Kathleen Bonesio-Bessette of Woodstock Valley and Danielson, and Lynn Bonesio-Peterson of Woodstock Valley; a brother, Robert McManus of Potomac, MD; and three grandchildren, Scott Bonesio, Ryan Bonesio, and Matthew Frederick.

North Grosvenordale, Ct – Norman R. Maynard, 64, of Pompeo Road, beloved husband of Dorothy (Bartkiewicz) Maynard died peacefully Saturday March 5, 2011 in Yale New Haven Hospital. Born in Webster, Ma, he was the son of the late Roland and Norma (Denis) Maynard.
Before retiring, Mr. Maynard worked as a sexton for St. Joseph Cemetery for 17 years. He also owned and operated his own painting business and at one time owned Dormay Pastries.
A 1965 graduate of St. Joseph High School, he entered the Army National Guard during the Vietnam era. He was an active member of St. Joseph Church and was involved with many St. Joseph & Sacred Heart Church fundraisers. For 20 years, he served as president of the parish’s Spring Fling. He was past president and an active member of the Community Fire Department. He was a loving family man. Norman and Dot celebrated their 42nd wedding anniversary on October 12, 2010.
In addition to his cherished wife Dot of 42 years, he is survived by his son Corey Maynard and his wife Mary Ann of Dudley; two daughters, Pamela M. Maynard of N. Grosvenordale and Kimberly K. Maynard and her fiancé Scott Aucoin of Dudley and his many friends at LB’s and Jim’s Hardware.

Webster, Ma – Roland R. Leonard, 79, died peacefully on Friday, March 4, 2011 at home surrounded by his loving family.
He leaves his beloved wife, Darlene C. Leonard; his children, Rodney Leonard & his wife Linda, Rebecca Leonard, Alan Leonard & his wife Julie West, Katherine Leonard & her husband David Delk, Ralph Leonard & his wife Keri, eleven grandchildren, Christine Therrien, Milton Morse, Kimbery Gadbois, Matthew Morse, Amanda Leonard, Michael Leonard, Dagny Leonard, Ethan Leonard, Maddox Leonard, Dylan Delk, Reese Leonard; four great-grandchildren, Abigail, Molly, Hailey and Lily; his nephew Scott Dimick & his wife Gail, and many close friends.
He was born in Erie, Pennsylvania, the son of Ralph & Lois Leonard. He earned a bachelor’s degree at Wilkes University and was a graduate of the Harvard Business School. He held many executive positions at Joy Manufacturing Company, Ingersoll Rand Corporation, and for the last twenty-five years has been the owner and CEO of Numa Tool Company located in Thompson, CT.
