Harriet A. Chenette

Putnam, CT – Harriet A. (Fifield) Chenette, 81, of Sabin St., formerly of Pineville Rd. in Ballouville, died peacefully Saturday, February 19, 2011 surrounded by her loving family. She was the loving wife of Arthur O. Chenette. Born on November 28, 1929 in East Thompson, CT, Harriet, a twin, was one of seventeen children born to Harry and Lydia (Benson) Fifield. The Fifield’s were well known for their six sets of twins, a world record displayed at the 1939 New York World’s Fair.
Mrs. Chenette was a lens inspector for American Optical Company for 20 years, retiring in 1992. She then volunteered for T.C.C.A. for 13 years at Westview Healthcare Center. Harriet was a member of the East Killingly Grange and the Happy Singers. She enjoyed playing cards, especially Double Pinochle, and doing word puzzles. She loved to sing, listen to music, and engage in conversation. Her family and friends were the most important part of her life. She will always be remembered for her eternally optimistic personality and the smile on her face.
In addition to her husband, Harriet is survived by seven children: Elaine Trudo of Thompson, Gary Chenette of Crestview, FL, Bernard Chenette of Danielson, Larry Chenette of Putnam, Karen Chenette of Swanzey, NH, Diana Haggerty of Killingly, and Kevin Chenette of Sterling. Six siblings: Margaret Wetherbee of Thompson, Elizabeth Desrosiers of Port Charlotte, FL, Paul Fifield of Manchester, NH, Franklin Fifield of Homosassa, FL, Eleanor Pepin of Putnam, and Kendall Fifield of Central Village. Twenty-one grandchildren, many great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She was predeceased by: two sons, Alan and an infant son Benjamin; a twin sister, Helen Fontaine, and siblings, Della Lewis, Claire Takessian, Charlotte LaPalme, Harry Fifield and David Fifield.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Harriet’s family on Wednesday, February 23, 2011 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Gilman Funeral Home, 104 Church St., Putnam. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 24, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. in the Congregational Church, 175 Main St., Putnam. A reception will follow. Burial will take place in the spring. North Grosvenordale – Olga Sward, 88, of Thompson Hill Rd. died Tuesday February 15, 2011 in Day Kimball Hospital. She was the loving wife of the late Herbert “Buster” Sward Sr. Born in Victory Mills, NY, she was a daughter of the late Paul and Katherina (Martis) Martis.
Mrs. Sward was a machine operator for American Optical in Southbridge for many years. She was a member of the Emanuel Lutheran Church and was a member of their Lutheran Church Women’s Group. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting and baking.
She is survived by her son, Herbert H. Sward, Jr. and his wife Lynne, of North Grosvenordale, Ct.; three grandchildren, Scott Sward and his partner Michael Leonard, of Portland, OR, Sandra Ebersohl of Aurora, CO and Kerri Mayo and her husband Gordon, of Ballouville, Ct. and three great grandchildren, Nicholas, Courtney and Kaeden.

South Woodstock, CT – Elizabeth M. Bartkus, 86, of Shore Dr. died Saturday, February 12, 2011 at home. She was the loving wife of the late Ernest Bartkus who died in 1986. Born in Simsbury, CT she was the daughter of the late George and Eva (Yerma) Myketyn.
Mrs. Bartkus worked as a store manager for Simsbury Pharmacy. She also worked as a machine operator for Underwood Manufacturing during the war. She was a communicant of St. Mary Church of the Visitation and a member of the VFW Women’s Auxiliary. She enjoyed cooking and collecting cookbooks. An avid basketball fan, she rooted for the Celtics and the men’s and women’s Uconn Huskies teams.
She is survived by her daughters, Sharon Mulvey and Michele Koss, both of Woodstock; and her grandson, Michael Mulvey.
Relatives and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial for Elizabeth on Thursday, February 17, 2011 at 10:00 am in St. Mary Church of the Visitation, 218 Providence St., Putnam. Burial will take place at a later date in Quassett Cemetery.

Putnam, Ct – Jeanette M. Olson, 84, of Modock Road died Saturday February 12, 2011 in Day Kimball Hospital. She was the loving wife of George “Paul” Olson for 61 years. Born in Thompson she was the daughter of the late Carmine and Mary (Molinaro) Muraco.
Mrs. Olson worked as a secretary for American Standard Co. She was a communicant of St. Mary Church of the Visitation. She was an avid cook. She enjoyed making fudge and received great pleasure giving it away to others.
In addition to her husband Paul, she is survived by her sister, Teresa Muraco of Grosvenordale and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Anthony Muraco, Samuel Muraco, Frank Muraco, Palma Muraco, Vincentina Muraco and Rose Muraco.

Vernon –Florence (Arsenault) Morin, 88, of Mill Stream Drive, formerly of North Grosvenordale, CT died Friday, February 11, 2011 in Westview Healthcare Center. Born in Fall River, MA, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Leona (Blanchette) Arsenault.
Mrs. Morin was raised in North Grosvenordale and worked for Matson Mills, Dazzle Carwash, and as a retail associate for Louis Dress Shop. She enjoyed sharp looking cars but most of all, she loved spending time with her family and socializing.
Florence is survived by her grandchildren, Todd Morin and his wife Diane of Woodstock, Chad Morin and his wife Donna of South Killingly; her great grandchildren, Brandon, Angela, Erica, Ashley, Hollis, Amanda, and Ben; her great great grandchildren, Chase, Adalise, Georgiana, and Isabelle; her daughter-in–law, Elaine Morin of East Winsor and her good friend, Sandra Chubbuck of South Killingly. She was the mother of the late Wayne G. Morin and Joan Purdy.

Woodstock Valley – Sylvie Comprone, 51, of Beaver Dam Road, died Monday, February 07, 2011, in Day Kimball Hospital. She was the loving wife and angel of Dennis Comprone for six years. Born on Magdalen Island, P.Q. Canada, she was the daughter of the late John and Aline (Gauthier) LeBlanc.
Born and raised in Canada, she moved to Connecticut in 2004 fulfilling her dream of becoming a proud resident of the United States. Mrs. Comprone worked as a cashier at Price Chopper and enjoyed taking care of animals especially her beloved cat “Tommy”.
In addition to her husband Dennis, Sylvie is survived by her stepson, Bryce Comprone of Louisville, KY; a stepdaughter & best friend Carly Comprone and her friend Tim Ferris of Putnam; her four brothers, Jacques LeBlanc and his wife Michelle, Roland LeBlanc, Marć Andre LeBlanc and Reynald LeBlanc all of Montreal, Canada; her two sisters, Lise Lesperance and her husband Roland “Meo” and Jocelyne LaCombe and her husband Marcel, all of Montreal, Canada; her brother in law, Joseph Comprone and his wife Connie of Old Lyme, CT; her sister in laws, Jackie Comprone-Weber and her husband Steven of Hampden, MA, and Annmarie Bellenoit and her husband Paul of Old Lyme, CT. Sylvie was the sister of the late Franc LeBlanc.

Putnam– Emily (Mikat) Lafleur, 75, of Sunnyside Avenue, died Sunday, February 6, 2011 in UMass University Campus. She was the loving wife of the late Richard L. Lafleur. Born in Putnam, she was the daughter of the late Adam and Annie (Stefanik) Mikat.
In her early youth, Mrs Lafleur worked in Mikat’s Market of Putnam, the family grocery store. She continued her work as a bookkeeper for A&P and Stop & Shop for 45 years. She was a communicant of Saint Mary Church of the Visitation in Putnam. Emily’s true commitment, joy and life were her children and grandchildren.
Emily is survived by, four sons and two daughters, Susette Cote and her husband Roger of Concord, NH, Laurent Lafleur and his wife Katherine of Clarksville, MD, Phillip Lafleur and his wife Nicole of East Killingly, Leonard Lafleur and his wife Leigh of Putnam, Dennis Lafleur of Putnam, and Denise Wesolowski and her husband Timothy of North Grosvenordale; her sister, Anna Peckham of Putnam; and 15 grandchildren. She was the sister of the late John Mikat and Evelyn Lukowski.

Putnam – Lillian (Sharples) Bacon, 66, of Bibeault Street, died Saturday, February 5, 2011, in UMass Memorial Hospital. Born in NY, NY, she was the daughter of George Sharples and Lillian (Hasiotis) Sharples.
Ms. Bacon worked as a very dedicated Special Education Teacher for the Thompson Public School System. Each and every one of the children she taught were very special to her. She retired in 2006 and continued to tutor students. She was a member of the National Education Association, and the Connecticut Teachers Association.
In addition to her parents, Lillian is survived by her son, Ronald L. Bacon, Jr. of Holden, MA, her daughter, Colleen Gaffney of Southington, CT; her brother Lloyd Sharples; her grandchildren, Jaimie and Jillian Gaffney, Aimee Minckler, Alyssa and Kerri Dennis, Steven, Marc, Matthew, and Derrick Bacon; and her great grandson Aiden Minckler.
She was predeceased by her son, the late Robert L. Dennis, Jr.

Dayville– Margarette (Bolduc) Montpelier, 73, of High Street, died Thursday, February 3, 2011 in Pine Grove Health Center in Pascoag, RI. She was the loving wife of Raymond J. Montpelier. Born in Chaplin, CT, she was the daughter of the late Fredrick and Ellen (Clark) Bolduc.
Mrs. Montpelier worked at American Thread and then went on to work at Acme Cotton in Dayville before her retirement.
In addition to her husband, Margarette is survived by her daughters, Rayliene Jenison of Brooklyn, and Denise Jenison of Brooklyn; her grandchildren, James Montpelier, Shannon Morris and Jessica Jenison.
She was predeceased by her daughter, Deborah (Montpelier) Harold in 1991.

North Grosvenordale –Irene (Popowicz) Salkiewicz, 81, of Brickyard Road, died Thursday, February 3, 2011 in Day Kimball Hospital. She was the loving wife of Edward Salkiewicz. Born in Worcester, MA, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Katherine (Menko) Popowicz.
Mrs. Salkiewicz was a homemaker who enjoyed gardening, and most of all spending time with her family.
In addition to her husband, Irene is survived by her sons, Edward P. Salkiewicz of North Grosvenordale, and Joseph P. Salkiewicz of North Grosvenordale, and John Salkiewicz of North Grosvenordale; her daughter, Katherine A. Kimball of St. Albans, ME; and her grandchildren, Nicholas E. Salkiewicz, Ethan E. Salkiewicz, Douglas Kimball, Audrey Kimball, and Alaina R. Salkiewicz. She was the last of her ten siblings.
