1955 – 2010

North Grosvenordale, CT – Laura A. Rousseau, 55 of Redmond, WA died peacefully Tuesday, September 28, 2010 at home. She was the loving wife of Patrick Rousseau. Born in Putnam, Ct she was the daughter of Lorraine (Coderre) Durand of North Grosvenordale and the late Lionel Durand.

Raised in North Grosvenordale, Laura attended Tourtellotte Memorial High School, Becker College and received her BS degree in economics from Eastern Connecticut State University.

Mrs. Rousseau took pride in caring for her family. Through her life’s journey, she was a communicant of St. Joseph Church in N. Grosvenordale, CT; St. Patrick’s Church in Mystic, CT; St. Mary’s Church in Canandaigua, NY; and St. Thomas Becket Church in Cheshire, CT.

In addition to her husband and mother, Laura is survived by her daughter, Diana Rice of Cromwell, CT; her son, Alan Rousseau of Athens, OH; her brother Roger Durand of N. Grosvenordale: her sister, Linda Dry of Burlington, NJ and her beloved grandson, Patrick Rice.

Relatives and friends are invited to Laura’s Funeral Mass of Christian Burial Saturday, October 2, 2010 in St. Joseph Church, 20 Main St., North Grosvenordale, CT. The church will be open at 9:30 to allow time for reflection & visitation, the Mass will begin at 10:30, and Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Leah (Landry) DuBois

Putnam – Leah (Landry) DuBois, 94, of Woodstock Ave., died Tuesday, September 14, 2010 in Regency Heights of Danielson.  She was the loving wife of the late Louis J. DuBois.  Born in New Market, NH, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Amanda (Fontaine) Landry.

Mrs. DuBois co-owned DuBois Oil with her husband.  She loved working outside, gardening and crocheting.  She was a communicant of Saint Mary Church of the Visitation.

Leah is survived by her sister, Diane McAdams of Danielson; her good friend, Mary Long of Plainfield; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her brother, the late Arsene Landry; and her sisters, the late Yvonne Vezina, Alice Berti, Irene Waters, Marina Lemoine, and Anna Lagrander.

Sr. Louis Ernest Brodeur, DHS

Sr. Louis Ernest, 88, a member of the Daughters of the Holy Spirit (White Sisters), died on Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at Holy Spirit Health Care Center in Putnam, CT where she had been a patient since January of 2008.

Born Léonie Brodeur on May 25, 1922 in Wauregan, CT, the daughter of the late Arthur and Célinise (Kérouac) Brodeur, Sr. Louis entered religious life in 1938 and made her religious profession on July 1, 1943 at the Holy Spirit Provincial House in Putnam, CT. 

Sr. Louis studied at St. Joseph Hospital in New York where she earned an LPN certificate and served in health care all of her religious life in the following localities—Fall River,MA; Pawtucket, RI; Putnam, CT; Bridgeport, CT; Newport, RI; and Providence, RI—all of this spanning a total of 64years and most of it in district nursing.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews, grand nieces and grandnephews

Calling hours at the Provincial House chapel will be on Thursday, September 16, 2010 from 6-8 PM with a Prayer Service at 7:15 PM.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, September 17, 2010 at the Holy Spirit Provincial House in Putnam at 11:00 AM followed by burial at St. Mary Cemetery in Putnam, CT.

Geraldine L. “Gerri” (Bellerose) Carlage

CLERMONT, FL-Geraldine L. “Gerri” (Bellerose) Carlage, 63, of Clermont and formerly of Putnam, died Wednesday, September 8, 2010 in the Mike Conley Hospice House, Clermont, following a short illness. 

She leaves her husband of 40 years, Fred P. Carlage; her two children, John P. “Jay” Carlage of New Hampshire and Lauren Brown and her husband Tom of Clermont, FL; her brother, Lawrence J. Bellerose an d his wife Arlene of Clermont; her sister-in-law, Dorothy Smolen and her husband William of Putnam, CT; her two grandchildren, Austin P. Wheeler and Mikayla M. Brown; 2 nieces and 3 nephews and six grand nieces and nephews. She was born in Webster, daughter of the late Laurent O. and Rita R. (Hamel) Bellerose and lived in Putnam for most of her life, before moving to Florida in 2002. She graduated from the former Putnam Catholic Academy, Putnam and the former Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, Worcester.

Gerri retired as the ICU charge nurse at Day Kimball Hospital, Putnam, where she had worked for more than 35 years. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Parish, Clermont and a former member of Saint Mary Church of the Visitation Parish, Putnam. She enjoyed reading, paling bingo and spending time with her grandchildren and her family. 

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Wednesday, September 15th from 5-8 PM in the Gilman Funeral Home, 104 Church Street, Putnam.  Her funeral will be held on Thursday, September 16th at 9:30 from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10:30 AM in Saint Mary Church of the Visitation, 218 Providence Street, Putnam.  Burial will follow in Saint Mary’s Cemetery, Putnam.

Putnam – Stella (Brzuch) Durocher, 93, of Ballou Street, died Saturday, September 4, 2010 in Day Kimball Hospital. She was the loving wife of the late Arthur L. Durocher. Born in Mechanicsville, CT, she was the daughter of the late Kaziemirz and Victoria (Lyiak) Brzuch.
Mrs. Durocher worked as a sales clerk for Bugbee’s Department store and retired in 1975. She enjoyed taking classes at the University of Connecticut and Quinebaug Valley Community College.
Mrs. Durocher was a Communicant of Sacred Heart Church. She volunteered at Day Kimball Hospital and at Matulaitis Nursing Home. She helped form a Cub Scout Troop at St. Mary’s Church in the 1950’s and served as a Den Mother. Stella was a world traveler. She visited Poland twice, once in 1939 and again 50 years later in 1989.
Stella is survived by her sons, Arthur E. Durocher of Orlando, FL, and Robert A. Durocher of Thompson, CT; her grandchildren, Angelique Black, Shelley Durocher, Heather Santos, and Jennifer Durocher; and 4 great grandchildren, Eva Black, Etta Black, Jackson Santos and Gabriella Santos. She was predeceased by her brother, the late Edward Brzuch.

Danielson – Andrew E. Harwood, infant son of Ronald W. Harwood, Jr. and Melanie (Ginese) Harwood and twin brother of the late Anthony R. Harwood of Francis St, died Tuesday, September 7, 2010 in UMass Memorial Hospital. 

 In addition to his parents, Andrew is survived by his maternal grandparents, Kevin and Robin Ide of Dayville, and Mark and Cathy Ginese of Shrewsbury, MA; his paternal grandparents, Rod and Sharon Ashley of Putnam; his uncle, Joey Ginese of Danielson; and his aunt, Theresa Rogers of Hudson, MA.

A private graveside service for Andrew was held on September 11, 2010 in Westfield Cementery.  Gilman Funeral Home was entrusted with his arrangements.

Rita T. Briere

Putnam– Rita (LaFlamme) Briere, 84, died Sunday, September 5, 2010 at Day Kimball Hospital.  She was the loving wife of the late Alfred J. Briere Jr.  Born in North Grosvenordale, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Leosa (Duquette) LaFlamme.

She enjoyed gardening, lighthouses, crocheting for her family and friends, and was a devoted grandmother and great grandmother.  She was a member of the Daughters of Isabella.  Rita was a communicant and greeter at Saint Mary’s Church of the Visitation.

Rita is survived by her daughters, Theresa Holbrook and her husband Richard of Putnam, Connie Latour and her husband Joseph of Putnam, and Dolores Wallick of Mystic, CT.  She is also survived by her three grandchildren, Kevin Holbrook, Lori Brisco and her husband Donald, and Jamie Bourque and her husband Andy; and 1 great-granddaughter, Samantha Megan Bourque.

1964 – 2010

Danielson – Geraldine A. (Kidd) Morar, 46, formerly of Youngstown, OH, lost her battle to cancer on Thursday, September 2, 2010 in UMass Memorial Hospital, Worcester, MA.  Born in Youngstown, she was the daughter of the Grace Browning of Danielson.

In addition to her mother, Geraldine is survived by her sons, David Kidd, Matthew “MJ” Kidd, and Roger W. Maxwell, Jr. all of CT; her stepdaughters, Crystal Maxwell, and Connie Maxwell of CT; her brothers, Alex Fusco, Ronnie Fusco, and Charlie Fusco all of OH; her sister, Amber Fusco of Struthers, OH; 14 grandchildren; her companion Bruce Barbeau; and numerous friends.
