Danielson – Yee M. Cheng, 83, of Waterman St., passed away Tuesday, August 31, 2010, in Regency Heights of Danielson. He was the loving husband of Ngor Y. (Lau) Cheng. Born in Fuzhou, China, he was the son of the late Mui Ng Cheng.
Mr. Cheng immigrated to America in 1978 and in partnership with his family founded the Jade Garden Restaurants of Danielson and Putnam.
In addition to his wife, Yee is survived by his sons, William “Bill” Cheng and his wife Sarah of Danielson, and Sam Cheng and his wife Sau Ching of Brooklyn; his daughter Amy Siow and her husband Dennis of Silver Springs MD, and Mui Wah Chan and her husband Zee Huang of Long Island, NY; his sister, Ying Chu of China; and his grandchildren, Kathy Cheng, Jason G. Cheng, Kyle Cheng and Jaden Cheng.

North Grosvenordale Pauline (Corriveau) Rock, 55, of Market Street, died Sunday, August 29, 2010, in her home.  Born in Putnam, she was the daughter of Jeannette Montpelier of Fabyan, CT, and the late George W. Corriveau.

Mrs. Rock worked as a self-employed landscaper.  She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, gardening and making puzzles.

Pauline is survived by her son, Robert Corriveau and his fiancé Angela Kurtz of North Grosvenordale; her daughters, Melissa Rock and her fiancé Thomas Walker of Pemaquid, ME, and Jessica Rock of North Grosvenordale; her brothers, George Corriveau of Marysville, PA, Alfred Corriveau of Willimantic, Roger Corriveau of Fabyan, Richard Corriveau of Fabyan, and Paul Corriveau of Thompson; her sister, Doris Corriveau of Fabyan; 6 grandchildren; and her companion Clifford Coman of Woodstock.

Raymond C. Langevin

Danielson – Raymond C. Langevin, 78, of Killingly Dr., died Saturday August 28, 2010. He was the loving husband of Margot (Eischet) Langevin until her death in 1977. Born in Wauregan, he was the son of the late Charles and Emelia (Chapdelaine) Langevin.
Mr. Langevin attended Sacred Heart Grade School, Assumption Preparatory, and Assumption College where he belonged to the President’s Club. He also attended Laval Medical School, which is where he qualified as a surgeon. He had a great love of learning and attended courses at Harvard, Tufts, MIT, and Boston University throughout his life. Mr. Langevin served his country for 8 years in the Army Medical Corps.
Mr. Langevin worked at Rogers Corporation where he developed the Antenna Window used for missile guidance. He discovered and invented Antagonistic Polyelectrolytes, which is still used in missiles to this day. He also worked for American Standard and taught in Killingly Public Schools. After retirement, he volunteered for St. James School, Dempsey Regional Center, Data General, C&M Wire & Cable, and for the Senior Citizens Club. Mr. Langevin loved science. He thought of the teaching of all sciences as the imparting of knowledge, which he considered a precious gift to his students.
Mr. Langevin was the recipient of many awards, including: St. John the Baptist Scholarship for all 4 years of college, the 1964 Technician of the Year, the Sharpshooter’s Medal for several different types of military weapons, and “Top Dr.” marker from the state. While Mr. Langevin was honored to receive all of these awards, he felt that his greatest accomplishment was achieving all he did in his lifetime despite being disabled.
Mr. Langevin enjoyed carpentry and design. He parlayed this interest into the design and building of three homes, Jorgensen Auditorium at UCONN, a shopping center, several bowling alleys, and three dormitories. Mr. Langevin was a member of St. James Parish, Danielson BPOE Elks #1706, the American Legion, and The United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners.
Raymond is survived by his son, Keith Langevin of Killingly; his daughter, Lynne Rossi of Danielson; his brother, Maurice Langevin of Brooklyn; his sister, Clarisse Pakulis of Cape Coral, FL; 2 grandchildren, Heather Marie Céspedes of Cranston, RI and Jason Rossi of Havelock, NC; and 3 great grandchildren, Aron, Tyler and Alexandria Rossi all of Havelock, NC. He was predeceased by his son, Kevin Langevin.

Vernon, CT & Woodstock, CT – Paul A. Jacobsen, 80, of Port St. Lucie, FL, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 24, 2010. Paul was surrounded by many loved ones over the past several weeks and died peacefully at the lake. He was the loving husband of the late Elsie (Braaten) Jacobsen for 52 years. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late Paul Arthur and Sigrid (Evensen) Jacobsen.

Paul served in the USMC, after which he went to work for Alcan Aluminum in NYC. In 1963, he moved his family to Vernon, CT, where he lived for 26 years before retiring to Florida. He was an active member of Trinity Covenant Church of Manchester and the First Congregational Church of Port St. Lucie, where he sang in the choir. He spent his summers at the lake in Woodstock, CT.

Paul is survived by his son, Steven Jacobsen and his wife Debora of Stafford Springs, CT; his daughters, Debra Riley and her husband Michael of Ellington, CT, Joanne Graves and her husband Larry of Ellington, CT, and Linda Haggerty and her husband Brian of Ft. Pierce, FL; his brother Allan Jacobsen; his close cousin, Holly Barnes; and his eight grandchildren, Mark, Jake, and Katie Riley, Lindsay and Thomas Jacobsen, Zack Graves, and Laura and Sarah Haggerty.

The most important things to Paul were his faith, family, and friends, and this was reflected in how he lived his life. We are all blessed to have known him.

Putnam-Sr. Pauline Desroches, 85, a member of the Daughters of the Holy Spirit died on Wednesday, August 18 in the Holy Spirit Health Care Center in Putnam where she had been a resident since 2008. 

Born on December 17, 1924 in Waterbury, CT the daughter of Joseph and Flore Desroches, she entered religious life in 1942 and made her religious profession on August 18, 1947 at the Holy Spirit Provincial House in Putnam, CT.  She was then known as Sr. Pauline Francis.

She was a teacher for most of her religious life, having earned a B.A. and an M.A. in Education.  Her teaching assignments beginning in 1947 included schools in CT, MA, upstate NY, VT and CA where she served as teacher and Principal in schools there.  In 1985, she went to the Appalachian region and tutored in Hurley, VA.  In 1986, she did Migrant Ministry in Painter as well as Aspers, VA and in 1988, she taught adult basic education in Hayneville, AL, continuing this ministry in Providence, RI until 1998.  She retired to the Holy Spirit Provincial House in Putnam in 2005.

She is survived by a brother, Roland, of Escondido, CA and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours at the Provincial House will be on Sunday, August 22, 2010 from 6:00pm to 8:00 pm with a Prayer Service at 7:15 pm.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Holy Spirit Provincial House on Monday, August 23 at 11 AM followed by burial at St. Mary Cemetery in Putnam.

Rogers Maralyn J. Whipple, 66, of Litchfield Avenue, died Wednesday, August 11, 2010 in UMass Memorial Hospital.  Born in Maryville, Missouri, she was the daughter of the late Maurice V. Henry and the late Blanche Smith Henry-Crabtree and step daughter of the late Chester Crabtree.

Mrs. Whipple worked as a CNA for Westview Healthcare Center for 12 years.  She took pride in taking care of people, either at home with her family, or at work with her patients.

Maralyn is survived by her sons, Ronald King, Jr. of Rogers, and Daniel Whipple of Rogers; her daughter, Cathy Suzanne King of Danielson; her brothers, Chester Crabtree III of Cape Cod, MA, and Edward Crabtree of California; her sisters, Susan Chvirko of Coventry, CT, and Cathy Jade Coast of Coventry, CT; 3 grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren.  She was predeceased by her son, the late David Whipple; and her brother, the late Robert Crabtree.

Central Village – Leon R. Pawlikowski, 69, of Kennedy Drive, died Friday, August 13, 2010, in Tobey Hospital, Wareham, MA.  Born in Willimantic, CT, he was the son of the late Leon and Sylvia (Koski) Pawlikowski.

Mr. Pawlikowski worked as an artificial inseminator in the dairy industry for Eastern A.I. and Genex.  He was a member of the N.R.A. and the Appalachian Mountain Club.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, hiking, and gardening.

Leon is survived by his son, Robert Pawlikowski, and his wife Judy of Rome, NY; his daughter Candice Guli and her husband Jim of Pomfret Center; his grandchildren, Celeste, Randy, Todd, Casey, Cody, and Corinne; his former wife, Barbara Pawlikowski McDuffie of Putnam; his brother, Arnold Pawlikowski, and his wife Eileen of Hampton; his close friend, Deb Chieppa of Sterling; 4 nieces; a nephew; several aunts and uncles; and cousins; and his beloved dog “Lily.”  He was predeceased by his brother Raymond, and a nephew David.

Putnam – Theresa A. Alexander, 82, of Providence St, died Tuesday, August 10, 2010 at Day Kimball Hospital.  She was the loving wife of the late Charles W. Alexander, Sr.  Born in Putnam, she was the daughter of the late Elzear and Laura (Gagne) Guertin.

Mrs. Alexander worked as a bobbin winder for Belding-Hemmingway in Putnam for 25 years, retiring in 1963.  She was a member of the VFW Women’s Auxiliary.

Theresa is survived by her two sons and their families, Charles W. Alexander, Jr., his wife Mary, and their daughter Chelsea of Abington, CT, and Michael A. Alexander, his partner Laurie Wlaszkiewicz, and their children, Jesse and Robyn of Putnam, CT.

She was predeceased by her brothers, Romeo, Edward, and Ernest Guertin; and her sisters, Pauline Augusto and Florence Jolley.

1918 – 2010

Manchester, CT Edward J. Ziobrowski, 92, passed away Tuesday, August, 10, 2010 in his home. Born in Fitchburg, MA, he was the son of the late Frank and Eva (Jankot) Ziobrowski.  He was the loving husband of the late Jeannette (Bartocha) Ziobrowski for 57 years. 

Mr. Ziobrowski was a highly decorated member of the Army serving in WWII as well as the Korean Conflict.  He also served in the Army Reserves retiring in 1978 as Sergeant First Class.  Ed worked for over 30 years as a mailman in Putnam, Brooklyn, and Pomfret Center. He and Jeannette retired to Lakeland, FL and enjoyed 23 years at Foxwood Lake Estates before he returned to Connecticut five years ago. Ed was also a member of the Putnam Polish Club, serving as the financial secretary; and the Albert J. Breault VFW Post 1523.

Edward is survived by his sons, Joseph Ziobrowski and his wife Susan of Manchester, CT; and John Ziobrowski of Chepachet, RI; his daughters, Ann Parziale and her husband Thomas of Rye, NH, and Stephanie Ziobrowski and her husband David Barbour of Barnardsville, NC; his brother Edwin Ziobrowski and his wife Delores of Mesa, AZ; his sister, Stasia Ziobrowski of Danbury, CT, and Blanche Mayo and her husband Bernard of Putnam, CT; 8 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Putnam – Pauline A. Weaver, 82, of East Putnam Road, died Monday, August 9, 2010 in Regency Heights Nursing Home.  Born in Putnam, she was the daughter of the late Elmar and Delia (Cote) Hart.

Mrs. Weaver worked as a textile worker for National Patent Medical and Acme Cotton.  She served as a Union President of the AFL-CIO.  She loved to travel.  Her favorite places included Hawaii, Alaska, and the Panama Canal.

Pauline is survived by her daughters, Karen Budney and her husband Brian of Danielson, and Melody Loiselle and her close friend Glen Clark of Putnam; two grandchildren, four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her brothers, the late Earnest “John” Hart, Edmond “Blackie” Hart, and Leo Hart; and her sister, the late Rita Bennett.
