Plainfield – Emily Hapgood, infant daughter of Gregory and Brandy (Viveiros) Hapgood, of Shepherd Hill Road, died Friday, June 25, 2010, in Day Kimball Hospital.

In addition to her parents, Emily is survived by her brothers, Anthony Perry Hapgood, Dylan Hapgood; her sister Alyssa Hapgood, her maternal grandparents, Michael and Jean Viveiros; her paternal grandparents, Donald and Christine Hapgood; her great grandparents, Frankie and Alice Roderick, and Mary Russell; her aunts and uncles Micah and Brianne Messer, David Hapgood, Scott and Melissa Adamuska; and many Great aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was predeceased by her great grandparents, Eugene and Leona Lariviere, and Calvin and Eris Hapgood.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Emily’s family from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm, Saturday, July 3, 2010 in the Gilman Funeral Home, 104 Church St., Putnam, with a funeral service at 4:00 pm in the funeral home.  Friends and Family are welcomed to gather for food and drink following the service at 255 Shepherd Hill Rd, Plainfield.

Danielson – Joan (Richardson) Lowe, 86, of Wheatley Extension, died Monday, June 21, 2010 in Day Kimball Hospital.  She was the loving wife of the late Walter P. Lowe.  Born in Providence, RI, she was the daughter of the late John and Louisa (Berger) Richardson.

Mrs. Lowe worked for 22 years as a home health aide for Day Kimball Home Health Care.  She enjoyed going to Maple Courts bingo every Tuesday and Thursday, and yard sales.  She was a devoted cat love who took in strays and once had 22 cats.

Joan is survived by her sons, John Lowe and his companion Linda Hery of Danielson, and Walter Lowe of Arizona; her daughter in-law Sheila Lowe and her companion Tom Skinner of White Mountains, NH; seven grandchildren, Caitlyn Lowe, Alisa Lowe, Eric Lowe, Tammy St. Martin, Ronald Scott, Jr., Sherry Lowe, Tracy Lowe and Chad Badger; and her great grandchildren, Ashley Scott, Sebastian Scott, and Logan St. Martin.

She was predeceased by her son, the late Robert Lowe, and her sisters, the late Margaret Marsh, Sarah Phillips, and Barbara Cole; and her best friend at Maple Courts, Terry Arsenault.

Relatives and friends are invited to a graveside service with Joan’s family at 10:00 am, Thursday June 24, 2010 in the Phillips Cemetery, North Road, Foster, RI.  Gilman Funeral Home, 104 Church St, Putnam, CT has been entrusted with the arrangements.

West Thompson – Dora Hrabos passed away June 18, 2010 at the Matulaitis Nursing Home.  She was born in Worcester, Mass. to the late Elmer and Mary Phillips (Kangley).

She is survived by her daughter Mildred Litke and her husband Samuel Litke of Brooklyn; three grandsons, Samuel of Salem, Oregon, Timothy of S. Killingly, Daniel of  Brooklyn; and five great grandchildren, Nathaniel, Emily, Allison, Sarah, and Bradley; and one great-great grandson, Cohen.

As a young girl, she grew up in Putnam, CT.  She married Stanley Hrabos in 1930, and moved to West Thompson, CT. Dora worked and retired from Belding Heminway after many years of employment.  After her retirement, she went back to work at the John Dempsey Training Center as a Foster Grandmother until her final retirement at the age of 80.

As a grandmother, she was called “Nana” and she became “Nana” to many other family and friends over the years.  She enjoyed traveling, bingo, and playing cards with her numerous friends.  She was loved and will be missed by many.

Webster, MA Mary E. Brown, 90, of School St. formerly of Riverhead, NY, died Tuesday, June 15, 2010 in Webster Manor Nursing Home.  She was the loving wife of the late William R. Brown, Sr.  Born in Bronx, NY, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Mary (Fisher) Cassidy.

Mrs. Brown worked as an assembler for electronics manufacturing.  She joined the VFW Ladies Auxillary #2476 in Riverhead, NY in 1972 where she  held the office of Chaplain from 1972 to 1977, the president of the Auxillary from 1980 to 1982, served as treasurer from 1986 to 2000, and was a lifetime member.  She was also a member of Riverhead Moose Club. 

Mary is survived by her brother, John Cassidy of Whiting, NJ; her daughter-in-law, Kathleen Ann Brown of Putnam, CT; her grandchildren, Robert Brown, and Kathleen E. Brown; her great grandchildren, Joey Brown, Hayden Brown, and Skylar Brown.  She was pre-deceased by her son, the late William R. Brown, Jr.; her brothers, the late Raymond and Robert Cassidy; and her sister, the late Florence Harrington.

Douglas Craig Zimmerman, age 52, Woodstock Valley, CT. On June 8, 2010, Doug collapsed while on a lunchtime run. Medics were unable to revive him.
Doug was born happy in Beverly, MA on July 26, 1957. He graduated from Penney High School in E. Hartford CT in 1975 and from Eastern CT State University in 1980 with a degree in Environmental Earth Science. His career in public service spanned 27 years with the CT Dept. of Environmental Protection. Doug started at DEP as an intern, then became a hazardous waste inspector, and ultimately his hard work and technical skills were rewarded by promotion to Supervising Environmental Analyst. In college, he was co-President of the Outing Club, and later he volunteered for 8 years with the Woodstock Historical Society as Vice President and Program Chair.

Doug was an avid mountaineer, rock and ice climber. From the time he was a young boy, he loved the outdoors, and hiked the trails in CT, NH, and NY with his father, brother, and friends. He went on to become a technical mountain climber. With his climbing buddies, he traveled to various places in the U.S, Canada, Alaska, and Peru. Doug and his friends Bob Plucenik and Doug Bonoff were first ever to conquer South Kennedy in the Yukon Territory in Canada. Bob commented that, of all the men he climbed with, Doug was the one he trusted most to be there when needed.

Doug was also a reckless softball player, giving all he could to help his team. He dislocated his shoulder three times flinging himself after balls. He could fix just about anything. No task was too big for him to tackle. He was always there for his wife, family, friends, co-workers and neighbors, ready to lend a helping hand. He had a great sense of humor and lived life with gusto.

Doug is survived by his wife Bet, his parents Larry Edwin and Joan Lorraine (Fraser) Zimmerman of Amston CT, sister Julie Miller and brother-in-law Charles of Leander TX, brother Glen Zimmerman and sister-in-law Therese of Hooksett NH, his mother-in-law Kay, brother-in-law John and sister-in-law Tina Gallagher, and countless other wonderful friends, colleagues and family members.

Relatives and Friends are invited to visit with Doug’s Family on Friday, June 11, 2010 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. in the Gilman Funeral Home, 104 Church Street, Putnam, CT. A memorial service to celebrate Doug’s life will be held at The First Congregational (The Hill) Church on 543 Route 169, Woodstock CT on Saturday, June 12, 2010 at 2:00 p.m., followed by a reception at the church, to which all are welcome.

In lieu of flowers, Doug’s life can be honored with a memorial donation to the Founders of Environmental Earth Science Fund c/o ECSU Foundation, 83 Windham St., Willimantic CT 06226; or the American Alpine Club, 710 10th St Suite 100, Golden, CO 80401; or the Woodstock Historical Society, PO Box 65, Woodstock CT 06281. Doug’s last act was giving the gift of sight and healing through tissue donation.

North Grosvenordale – Blanche M. LaFlamme, 88, of Riverside Dr., died May 28, 2010, in William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich.  Born in North Grosvenordale, she was the daughter of the late Medard and Florentine (Croteau) LaFlamme.

Mrs. LaFlamme worked in the inspection department for Colts Plastics and enjoyed bingo.

Blanche is survived by her sister, Eleanor Donais of Dudley, MA; her nieces, Jane Beno of No.  Grosvenordale, and Marlene Carosi of Thompson; her nephews, Ronald Donais of Alexandria, VA, Paul Donais and Donald Donais both of Dudley, MA; and her close friend, Lucy Bergeron of Grosvenordale.

She was predeceased by her brother, the late Lionel J. LaFlamme, Sr.; her sister, the late Henriette LaFlamme; and her nephew, the late Lionel J. LaFlamme, Jr.

Relatives and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial for Blanche on Thursday June 17, 2010 at 10:00 am in St. Joseph Church, 20 Main St., N. Grosvenordale.  Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Brenda (Poirier) Ericson

Brooklyn – Brenda (Poirier) Ericson, 46, of Darby Road, died Tuesday, June 1, 2010 in Day Kimball Hospital.  She was the loving wife of Jon C. Ericson.  Born in Putnam, she was the daughter of the late Maurice and Yvette (Bonneville) Poirier.

Mrs. Ericson worked as a personal care assistant for Allied Community Resources.  She was a co-leader for the Girl Scouts Troop # 65105 in Brooklyn, and enjoyed crocheting and karaoke. 

In addition to her husband, Brenda is survived by her daughters, Amber Foster and her husband Willis of St. Mary’s, GA; and Jeanie Ericson of Brooklyn; her sisters, Debra Wallace of Brooklyn, and Lori Poirier of Brooklyn; and several nieces and nephews.

Beatrice (Goodwin) Bebbington

Woodstock – Beatrice Goodwin Bebbington, 86, of Brickyard Road died Sunday, May 30, 2010 in Matulaitis Nursing Home.  She was the loving wife of the late Charles W. Bebbington who died in 1951.  Born in Stafford Springs, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Genevieve (Bicknell) Goodwin.

Mrs. Bebbington was employed at Mansfield State Training School for 23 years.  A lifelong member of the Evangelical Covenant Church of Woodstock, she became the first female Deaconess of the church.  Known to many as “Aunt Bea the Cookie Maker”, she pleased many with her baking.  She enjoyed painting, gardening crocheting, and sewing.  She also loved books and reading.

She is survived by her sons, Charles T. Bebbington of Fort White, Fl, and James Bebbington of Woodstock; her daughters, Cynthia Bebbington-Lucia or Fort White, Fl, Linda Bebbington-Mannix and her husband Thomas of Plainfield, and Alice Bebbington-Knowles of Woodstock;  her brothers, Robert Goodwin and his wife Marguerite of Woodstock, Conrad Goodwin and his wife Lorraine of N. Windham, and Philip Goodwin of Woodstock; her grandchildren, Richard Kivela and his wife Carrie, Cassandra Johnson and her husband Dr. Mark Johnson, Richard Santerre, Jr., Charles Santerre and his wife Chickie, Cynthia-Lin Knowles and Pv2 Byron Knowles; and her great grandchildren, Owen Kivela, Matthew Santerre, Dylan Santerre, Maxwell Santerre, Valerie Santerre, and Rosalie Santerre.  She was the grandmother of the late Keith Knowles; and sister of the late Ruth Dion, Emily Richards, Clara Ellson, Alice Hackenschmidt, Ralph, Lawrence, and Arthur Goodwin.
