Putnam – Doris Mae Hobby, 82, passed away Wednesday, July 22, 2009 in Haven Health Care Center. Born in Manchester, CT, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Pearl (Heritage) Hobby. Doris worked at Laurian Cleaners in Putnam, as well as Pierce Memorial Baptist Home in Brooklyn. She lived with her parents and then with her great uncle Ed until he died in 1974. After his passing, she lived in Putnam and then the Roseland Home in Brooklyn. She was a member of the Congregational Church of Putnam, as well as being involved in A.R.C. of Quinebaug Valley, and the Quinebaug Senior Center. Doris loved bowling, and liked to read and watch TV. She also enjoyed taking trips around New England. However, her family was the most important thing to her.

Doris is survived by her sister, Barbara Hobby of West Hartford, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, and great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews. She was predeceased by her two brothers and three sisters.

Relatives and friends are invited to her graveside Service at 10:00 am in Hanover Cemetery, Potash Hill Road, Sprague CT, on Monday, July 27, 2009. Gilman Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Norman G. Briquier, Jr.

Dayville – Norman G. Briquier, Jr., 35, of Hartford Pike, died unexpectedly Friday, July 24, 2009. He was the loving husband of Chastity (Walsh) Briquier. They were united in marriage April 25, 1998 at St. James Church in Danielson. Born in Putnam, he was the son of Norman G. Briquier, Sr. and Elaine (Dessert) Briquier, also of Dayville.

Mr. Briquier was a truck driver for A-1 Septic Company. He also owned and operated his own logging business. Norman was a communicant of St. Mary Church of the Visitation and volunteered as a coach for St. Mary School basketball. He loved playing all sports especially football. He also enjoyed golfing, bowling, hunting, and fishing and was an avid Red Sox fan. Norman especially loved spending time playing with his children.

In addition to his wife and parents, Norman is survived by his three loving daughters, Ashley, Meghan, and Madison, all at home, his sister, Kim Boswell of Griswold, and his five nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects to Norman’s family on Thursday, July 30, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Mary Church of the Visitation, 218 Providence St. Putnam, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Dayville. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Norman’s memory to St. Mary School, 23 Marshall St. Putnam, CT 06260.

William “Billy Boy” Broughton, IV

William “Billy Boy” Broughton, IV

Putnam – William F. Broughton, IV, 52, of Prospect Street, died Sunday, July 12, 2009, in Day Kimball Hospital. Born in New London, CT, he was the son of the late William F. Broughton, III, and the late Julia Delight (Amidon) Broughton.

Mr. Broughton was a resident of Putnam for 35 years and worked as a machinist for John M. Dean, Inc. He enjoyed gardening, researching his family genealogy, and especially loved the ocean.

William is survived by his sons, Adrian T. Broughton of Putnam, and Harlan N. Broughton of Putnam; his daughters, Rachel Y. Estes of Terryville, and Hannah E. Broughton of Putnam; his sisters, Betsy Shafer of Ledyard, Barbara Schoeder of Hampton, and Rebecca Syme of Thompson; 2 grandsons, and 3 granddaughters; and his former wife, Joyce Tuttle of Putnam. He also leaves his beloved dog, “Doba.”

North Grosvenordale- Dorothy “Gramma Dot” (Elliott) Hibbard, 83, of Fabyan Road, “Hibbardville”, North Grosvenordale, died peacefully Thursday, June 25, 2009. She was the wife of the late Carlton C. Hibbard. Born in Webster, MA, she was the daughter of the late Loring and Helen (Urbanowski) Elliott.

Dot was a nurse’s aid at Day Kimball Hospital’s Maternity Ward for 23 years. She also worked as a secretary in the business office of The American Optical Company. She was a member of the North Grosvenordale United Methodist Church, active in their Women’s Society. Dot loved the Boston Red Sox and UCONN Women’s Basketball as much she loved watching her own grandchildren’s sporting events. She loved to knit, play rummy and spend hours playing Spider Solitaire on the computer.

Gramma Dot is survived by three sons, Loring “Moose” Hibbard, Bryant Hibbard and his wife Cindy, and Richard Hibbard; two daughters, Joann Arsenault and her husband, Peter, and Lisa Arsenault and her husband, Timothy, all of North Grosvenordale; a brother, Walter “Butch” Elliott and his wife, Shirley, of Putnam; seven grandchildren, Courtney, Jarrod, Jay and his wife Lori, Ryan, Nicole, Olivia, and Demetri; five great-grandchildren, Chloe, Saige, Wyatt, Cooper, and Summer; four nephews, Stephen Elliott, Burt Elliott, Jeff Elliott and Mark Elliott; and two brothers-in-law, Russell Hibbard and Stuart Hibbard. She was the sister of the late Burton Elliott. She also leaves behind many friends and loved ones who adopted her as Gramma Dot.

Dayville – Anna A. Simonzi, 96, died Saturday, July 11, 2009 in Westview Health Care Center. She was the loving wife of the late William Simonzi. Born in Central Falls, RI, she was the daughter of the late John and Regina (Mazurek) Wegiel.

Mrs. Simonzi worked as a homemaker and was very proud of being a den mother for the Boy Scouts of America. She enjoyed cooking for her family, gardening and was a skilled seamstress. She was a member of St. Mary Church of the Visitation in Putnam, Daughters of Isabelle, the Council of Catholic Women, and the Putnam Senior Citizens.

Betty is survived by her daughter, Alice Archambault and her husband Charles of North Grosvenordale; her son, Ralph Simonzi and his wife Selma of Bellevue, WA; her son in-law, Roger Blanchette of North Grosvenordale; her former daughter in-law, May Kasek of Danielson; her grandchildren, David R. Archambault and his wife Marcia of North Grosvenordale, Joseph C. Archambault and his wife Rabeya of United Arab Emirates, Marianne Zwicklbauer and her husband Michael of Newport News, VA, Rebecca Simonzi of MA, Mary Anna Gripe and her husband Tom of CA, Angela Simonzi of Bellevue, WA, Michelle Wilson of Putnam, Monique Blanchette of Putnam, Richard Blanchette of Hopkinton, MA, Christine Blazer of Danielson, Lisa Surprenant and her husband Robert of Danielson, Daniel Simonzi of Raynham, MA, and Susan Baranski of Webster, MA; 21 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her son William J. Simonzi Jr. and her daughter, Shirley Blanchette.

Roger E. Langlois

1922 – 2009

Thompson-Roger E. Langlois, 86, of Elaine Street, died Monday, July 06, 2009. He was the loving husband of the late Mary (Klick) Langlois. Born in North Grosvenordale, he was the son of the late Willie and Anais (Martin) Langlois.

Mr. Langlois served in the Army during WWII. He worked as a sheet metal fabricator at metal Mast for over 20 years. He enjoyed auto racing and was the driving force on his grandson’s stock car team.

Roger was a member of the American Legion Post #67 in North Grosvenordale, and the VFW Post 10088 in Thompson.

Roger is survived by his step-son, Bernard Bronczyk of North Grosvenordale, his sister, Charlotte Gwizdala of Woodstock; his brothers, Norman Langlois of Putnam, and Joseph Langlois of Thompson; his grandchildren, Scott Bronczyk of Eastford, and Kerry Cyronak of Sutton, MA; and 4 great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by his brother, the late Maurice Langlois, and his sister, the late Annette Brousseau.

North Grosvenordale, CT – Kauri Laine Levesque became an angel on Thursday, July 2, 2009, in Day Kimball Hospital. Born in Southbridge, MA, she was the infant daughter of Allan and Tonya Levesque.

In addition to her parents, Kauri is survived by her twin sister, Calleigh Remy Levesque; her brother Eric Matthew Levesque; her paternal grandparents, Elaine Levesque and Al Fourgere of North Grosvenordale; her paternal great-grandparents, Jim Rice Jr. and Theresa Rice of North Grosvenordale; and her Aunt, Aimee Jalbert of North Grosvenordale.

Aime A. Grenier

Aimé A. Grenier
1930 – 2009

North Grosvenordale- Aimé A. Grenier was welcomed into the arms of our Lord and reunited with his wife, Yvette, on Monday July 6, 2009. He was born in North Grosvenordale, Ct, one of seven children of Bernard and Antoinette (Remillard) Grenier.

Aimé was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving as a Sergeant in the Korean War Conflict from 1951 to 1953, and further serving his country in the Army Reserve until 1957.
He was a mechanic, formerly employed at Fran’s Getty in Webster, MA, and Johnson Corrugated in Thompson CT, retiring in 1998 to care for his wife. Aimé married Yvette LeBoeuf on July 4, 1953 at Sacred Heart Church in Webster, MA. Yvette predeceased him on December 13, 2007, and he missed her greatly.

Aimé leaves behind his 6 children; Marie, David, and Patricia Grenier, all of North Grosvenordale, Diane Goyette and her husband, Michael, of Putnam, Rita Grenier of Chesterfield, England and Anne Marie Donais, and her husband Donald, of Woodstock. Also, grandchildren, Aimee Jane Griffin and her husband, Bruce, of Thompson, Jason Authier of Thompson, Christopher Goyette of Woodstock and Thomas D. Goyette of Putnam. He was predeceased by his wife, and his brother Andrew “Butch” Grenier.

Aimé enjoyed a good joke, spending time with his great grandchildren, Jason and Austin Authier, the Boston Red Sox, mowing his lawn, and Sunday mornings with his surviving brothers and sisters; Paul Grenier, Jean Grenier, Cecile Grenier, Agnes Gaucher and Marguerite LaFountaine. In addition, he leaves many nieces and nephews.
He was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church, N. Grosvenordale CT and a member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion in N. Grosvenordale.

Woodstock – Raymond C. Williams, 96, of New Sweden Rd, died Saturday June 27, 2009 in Matulaitis Nursing Home. He was the loving husband of Eleanor (Evans) Williams. Born in Woodstock, he was the son of the late Clarence Williams and Gertrude (Creapo) Williams.

Mr. Williams worked as a truck driver for several area construction companies. He was a member of the Putnam Lodge of Elks. He enjoyed riding motorcycles, gardening, playing cards and taking day trips. Every morning he would meet his friends for coffee at the Village Restaurant in Woodstock.

In addition to his wife, Raymond is survived by a daughter, Shirley Rapose of Woodstock; two grandchildren, Tracey Brown of Woodstock, and Steven Rapose of Woodstock; three great-grandchildren, Christopher, Justin and Joshua; a brother-in-law, Richard Evans and a sister-in-law, Gerry Evans.
