Elizabeth M. (Gubala) Basinet
1924 – 2009

Putnam – Elizabeth M. (Gubala) Basinet, 84, of Mill St., died Monday, January 26, 2009 in Lanessa Extended Care in Webster, MA. She was the wife of Joseph Roland Basinet whom she married June 13, 1953 in St. Stanislaus Church. Her brother, the late Reverend Theodore Gubala performed the ceremony. Born in Meriden, CT, she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Mary (Taylor) Gubala.

Mrs. Basinet was a graduate of Meriden High School and St. Joseph College in W. Hartford, CT. She was an English teacher for several years in Meriden. Later, she was administrative assistant to the president of the Watertown Bank in Watertown, MA. She went on to become the secretary of New England Camping Association in Waltham MA; secretary for Adirondack Camp in Glenbernie, NY; and Camp Secretary for the Fessenden School Day Camp in W. Newton, MA. Mrs. Basinet was a communicant of St. Mary Church in Putnam and Most Holy Trinity Church in Pomfret. She was a devoted mother to her five children.

In addition to her husband, Elizabeth leaves her children, Michelle Ruscito and her husband Frank, Claire Markow and her husband Peter, Elaine Peters and her husband Brian, Doreen Colburn and her husband David, and Matthew Basinet and his wife Nina; 8 grandchildren, Jim Colburn, Jacqueline Peters, Nicole Markow, Jessica Peters, Eric Markow, Katelyn Peters, Jack Roland Basinet, and Anna Rose Basinet. Elizabeth was predeceased by her brothers, Reverend Father Theodore Gubala, Jacob Gubala, and Joseph Gubala.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Elizabeth’s family from 1:00 to 3:00 Saturday January 31, 2009 in the Gilman Funeral Home, 104 Church St., Putnam, with a Funeral Service at 2:00 pm in the Funeral Home. Burial will take place at a later date in Meriden, CT.

Vivian R. Mayo

1936 – 2009
North Grosvenordale – Vivian R. Mayo, 73, of Riverside Drive, died Tuesday, January 27, 2009, in Westview Health Care. She was the loving wife of the late Louis J. Mayo III. Born in Webster, MA, she was the daughter of the late Omer H. and Irene (Lavallee) Bruneau.
Mrs. Mayo was a bookkeeper for Louis J. Mayo Plumbing. She had also worked for Jessica Tuesday’s restaurant in Putnam for the last five years. She was a communicant of St. Joseph Church and Past President of the Daughters of Isabella. She was a volunteer at Day Kimball Hospital and a member of the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary, and the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed working the poling places each election, playing Bingo and visiting Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun. More than anything else, she loved spending time with her family.
Vivian is survived by her sons, Louis J. Mayo, IV and his companion, Dawn of North Grosvenordale, Jason A. Mayo and his wife Denise of North Grosvenordale, her daughter, Tammy J. Chapedelaine and her husband Dave of North Grosvenordale; her grandchildren, Jessica Jellison of Pomfret, Karl Kuhn Jr. of Thompson, Jamie Cotnoir of Thompson, Tyler Briere of Thompson and Brittany Mayo of North Grosvenordale; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Omer M. Bruneau.

John L. Waterman

Worcester – John L. Waterman, 41, of Devens Rd, formerly of Putnam, CT died Friday January 23, 2009 after injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Bellingham, MA. Born in Norwich, CT, he was the son of the late Donna L. (Pizzo) Wagner.

Mr. Waterman was a fine wine sales representative for the Martignetti Companies for eight years. He was a graduate of Worcester State College and enjoyed playing golf. An avid Patriot, Red Sox, Bruin, Celtic and UConn Huskie fan, he became a resource of sports facts and trivia to friends and relatives.

John is survived by his three beloved sons, Noah Waterman, twins Michael and Reece Waterman all of Worcester; his father, Alan V. Wagner and his companion Theresa Goodrich of Webster, MA; a brother, Robert A. Wagner and his companion Kellie Sheehan of East Killingly, CT; three sisters, Dawn Hehir and her husband Chris of Putnam, CT, Chris Lockhart and her husband Jim of Old Saybrook, CT and Karen Palenski and her husband Steve of Old Lyme, CT; his former wife, Stephanie Waterman of Worcester; his in-laws, Marsha and Lennie McGlynn of Holden, MA; his brother-in-law, Dan McGlynn and his wife Lynn, of Rutland, MA and several nieces and nephews.

George L. Pepin

Putnam, CT- George L. Pepin, 82, of Ballou Street, formerly of Quinebaug, died Tuesday January 13, 2009 in UMass Memorial Healthcare Center. He was the loving husband of the late Irene (Charron) Pepin who died in 1997. Born in Lowell, MA, he was the son of the late James and Clara (Bachand) Pepin.

Mr. Pepin worked as a fabricator for UMass Memorial Healthcare Center. He was a WWII Army Veteran serving in the Air Corps Ammunition Company and a communicant of St. Stephen’s Church.

Mr. Pepin is survived by a brother, Robert Pepin of Colorado Springs and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by Eugene Pepin, Alfred Pepin, Roland Pepin, Leon Pepin, Claire Paradise, Gertrude Delage, Beatrice Bellanger, and Evelyn Werlich.

Relatives and friends are invited to a graveside service Wednesday January 21, 2009 at 1:00 pm in St. Joseph Cemetery, 20 Main Street, North Grosvenordale, CT. Arrangements entrusted to the Gilman & Valade Funeral Homes.

1938 – 2009

Putnam – Pauline M. LeBlanc, 70, of Providence Pike, died Wednesday, January 14, 2009 in Putnam. She was the loving wife of Gerard LeBlanc. Born in Williamstown, VT, she was the daughter of the late Willi and Flora (LaFontaine) Groleau.

Mrs. LeBlanc worked as a teacher for 35 years in the Public School System and very much enjoyed her retirement.

Pauline is survived by her sons, Gerard LeBlanc and Michael P. LeBlanc; her daughter, Catherine E.L. Schambach; two brothers, Emile Groleau and Marcel Groleau; five sisters, Yvonne Neurath, Jacqueline Kelly, Alice Valley, Rolande Blakesley, and Irene Davis; four grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her sisters, the late Gertrude Lecours, Rita Turi, and Elizabeth Barcomb.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Pauline’s family from 4:00 to 8:00, Sunday, January 18, 2009 in the Gilman Funeral Home, 104 Church St., Putnam. A gathering will begin at 9:30am on Monday, January 19, 2009 at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am in St. Mary Church of the Visitation, 218 Providence St., Putnam. 1934-2009

Thompson- Edward S. “Eddie” Adam, 74 died Saturday January 3, 2009 at home surrounded by his family. He was the loving husband of Lorraine (Heath) Adam for 52 years. Born in Putnam, Ct, he was the son of the late Shaban and Mary (Sagan) Adam.
Mr. Adam worked as a metalizer for Bolmet Metalizing for 10 years retiring in 2000. He had also worked as a mechanic for Freddie’s Motor Sales and in construction helping build the Thompson Dam and Interstate Route 395. He served in the US Army and was assistant fire chief for the West Thompson Fire Department. Eddie was a member of the Cargill Council 64, Knights of Columbus and an avid Red Sox fan.
In addition to his wife, Eddie is survived by three daughters, Deborah Byers of Parkersburg, WV, Lynn Bernklow of Thompson and Rhonda Nevers of Thompson; six grandchildren, Jocelyn Preston, Kelly Coman, Adam Preston, Andrew Byers, Joshua Byers, and Greg Byers; and two great grandchildren, Logan Preston and Scotty Byers. He was the grandfather of the late Kathleen Byers

North Grosvenordale- Thomas G. Durand, 53, of Reardon Road, died Tuesday, January 06, 2009, in Day Kimball Hospital.  He was the loving husband of Susan (Verrette) Durand.  Born in Putnam, he was the son of the late Thomas G. Durand Sr. and Rachel (Vadnais) Durand.

Mr. Durand worked as a salesman for Osterman Propane in Plainfield for the last eight years.  He was member of the Putnam Lions Club and was an avid fan of the New York Yankees.

Thomas is survived by two daughters, Danielle Durand of North Grosvenordale, and Jamie Munson and her husband Ryan of Thompson; two brothers, Timothy Durand, his twin, of Thompson, and Michael Durand of Danielson; his sister, Cheryl Pepek of North Grosvenordale; and his grandson, Benjamin Munson.
